How to make Rose Bun for Valentine Day

This week, I have been quite busy making Valentines Day things with my kids and I came across a video post on facebook to make a rose bun.

Steamed Seabass with Shredded Ginger

As many of you will know, I’ve been writing a series of Chinese New Year posts from crafts to foods.  Check out my Chinese New Year’s Pinterest board for ideas!

Many Chinese will cook a fish dish on Chinese New Year Eve reunion dinner as it represents 年年有余 (Nian Nian You Yu) meaning abundance through the year.  It is a great auspicious dish for all to eat.  It is also traditional to serve fish with its head and tail intact to symbolise a positive beginning and end to the New Year.

Oriental Twist Chicken with Crunchy Crumb and McCain French Fries

We all love a Saturday lie-in and a bit of family time together!  Unfortunately this morning, both kids decided that today was not a day for lie-ins and woke us up by jumping on us in bed!  We managed to fight off this onslaught momentarily but the final straw came when the postman knocked on the door so we all got up.

GOOD Hemp Products Review

I was so excited when I was introduce to these GOOD Hemp Products.  We always love to try new food products and they are produced in Britain – Devon in fact!  They produce products from hemp seeds including GOOD OIL, a 100% cold-pressed hemp seed oil, GOOD HEMP Milk alternative, and GOOD SEED which are shelled hemp seeds.  All of their products are 100% natural and are suitable for vegetarians, vegans and contain no allergens. I have received these three products for review and this is what I think of them:

PLj Lemon Juice Review

PLj is a classic British brand, which evokes nostalgia amongst many, a favoured slimming aid since the 1970s is a great everyday accompaniment to many drinks and dishes.  They can be used for detoxing, adding to recipes or giving a twist to your favourite cocktail.  Their natural lemon juice contains no artificial ingredients or colours and is a staple for Pancake Day as an easy, affordable and convenient replacement for fresh lemons.

My Leftover Challenge with Knorr

As a SAHM, I always plan our meals and try to make sure that nothing goes to waste.  But during the festive season, it is easy to go overboard and buy too much food, ‘just in case’. I am so excited to join Mumsnet and Knorr to create my own recipes or to try out Knorr recipes to do this challenge.  I decided to make up my own recipes.

31 Days with Ryvita Challenge

After all the festivities, I have no doubt that I have put on a few pounds as my regular exercise class has been on a break.  I guess bargain hunting in the January sales does count?!  We have been eating lots of chocolates, sweeties and even baking cake!  Now I need to reign that back a bit and start my healthy eating plan!

Next week, it will be a nightmare with the breakfast routine as the schools reopen and Mr C goes back to work after a long break.  But not too worry, as Ryvita has set me a new challenge for this January with 31 easy ways to spruce up a healthy eating plan.  From spicy Cracked Black Pepper to sweet Fruit Crunch, the classic rye Ryvita® Crispbread range will give this January some crunch.  I hope to be inspired with a variety of toppings, recipes and serving suggestions that will carry me through the month; completely guilt free.

Winter Solstice Festival 2013 with Tangyuen

Today marks another year of the Winter Solstice Festival.  I can’t believe how time passes us so quickly and it is going to be another new year in less than two weeks time.  If you don’t know what the Winter Solstice Festival/Dongzhi is and why we are celebrating it, please click here to read what I had wrote in last year’s blog post.

Chicken Pasta Bake and Tom Yum Soup

It is getting so cold and windy!  As you may know, I come from a hot country without the usual four seasons, so when the winter turns cold, I like to cook spicy Asian food to keep me warm!  My husband and the children are not used to eating very spicy food so sometimes I end up cooking two to three different meals to suit the whole family!

I always love Thai food as they can be very spicy! They are best to eat after coming back home from the cold and harsh weather as they give you a fantastic endorphins rush! I choose to cook Thai Tom Yum Soup.

Pork Floss Bun

Ever since I tried a Pork Floss Bun from Breadtalk, I always wanted to find out how they make it.  Pork Floss Buns are Breadtalk’s signature product in Singapore!  If you ever visit Singapore, do give it a try. I absolutely love it. I am not sure if they still taste the same to what I had 10 years ago though!

HelloFresh! Happy Cooking! Yummy Food!

Recently, I came across HelloFresh through Twitter and they were kind enough to send me a sample box to try out. Inside there are three different recipe cards and with all the ingredients inside the box to cook each meal for two person. These recipes are not the usual meals that I would cook for my family as I usually cook Asian food. So I was extremely happy to learn and cook these new recipes.

Our Perfect Dinner with Schwartz

This post is an entry for BritMums ‘What’s for Dinner Tonight?’ sponsored by Schwartz.

I love finding ways to cook an easy and healthy meal for my family. Life is so busy with two children and a blog to write. I never have time to cook from scratch so I mainly rely on ready made cooking sauces. I have not tried Schwartz products before but I had followed them on twitter @SchwartzCooking for new product and recipe ideas. Look out for their weekly Tuesday Twitter competition to win a seasonal #Schwartz goodie bag. I was given a packet of Mediterranean Chicken Pasta and Cheesy Crumb Topping and a packet of Garlic & Thyme Roast Chicken + Crispy Roast Potatoes to show you how easily it can be done.

Flora Healthy Lunch Box Wrap

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

Both of my children school full time and each week I have to plan their meals. It is not easy to plan when you have two fussy eaters. We always go food shopping together and discuss what they like to eat for that week.

I was so pleased to do this Flora challenge and discover that they have so many tasty and healthy ideas on their website.  We had to pick a recipe from the website and the children decided to cook Chicken Tikka Wrap for their packed lunch box.

Pyrex’s Impressions impress me

I have been trying to cut down on waste and the way I cook. Since I’ve had this Pyrex’s Impressions square roaster for review, I have saved a lot of unnecessary usage of tin foil. Instead of using a big oven tray covered with tin foil, I just use this roaster to cook. It’s so useful and easy to clean.

Each day, my children have different out of school activities like swimming lessons, karate lessons and learning Mandarin. Sometimes, I do not have time to cook a healthy and quick home cook meal. This square roaster comes in handy. The dimension is 24 cm x 24 cm x 7 cm. It is big enough to cook a nice selection of BBQ chicken drumsticks or fish etc for a family of four. I marinated chicken drumsticks/pork ribs coated with BBQ sauce in a zip lock bag. After marinating for 24 hours, I placed the chicken drumsticks/pork ribs onto the roaster to cook in the oven.

Discovery Food Garlic & Herb Soured Cream

Celebrate the Mexican festival Cinco de Mayo (the 5th of May 2013) with Discovery Food! Cinco de Mayo is a colourful carnival marked in Mexico with singing, dancing, fireworks and fantastic food.  I am so excited that I was picked to review Discovery Foods: a Perfect Fajita Kit, the *new* garlic and herb sour cream and a Fajita Cooking Sauce.
