Chinese New Year Ang Pow Sheep

It is the time of the year to start making some Chinese New Year crafts! This year, the first day of Chinese New Year falls on the 19 February 2015 and it will last for 15 days. Last year, I had made quite a few Ang Pow lanterns, taught the children simple ways to learn the Chinese zodiac, did various paper cuttings and also made a 3D Chinese “Spring” character. This coming year is the year of the Sheep. During these next few weeks, I will be sharing different types of sheep crafts with you!

Today, I am showing you how to make a Chinese character sheep 羊 using ang pow (red packet). This is a very simple way to decorate your wall and teach your children Chinese words.

How to Make Your Couch Comfortable

Wait a Minute – Don’t Throw Out Your Old Couch Just Yet! The winter weather has been horrible, but weather in the United Kingdom is starting to look a bit nicer lately. The only eye sore tends to be at the curb, where the trash from neighbour’s spring cleaning attempt sits. Now that the weather’s cleaning up, furniture is also finding its way out the door.

So you start looking around your house and you think about what you want to buy next. Maybe you argue yourself out of a new TV, but only because your kids destroyed your couch. But it was once a huge investment and it shouldn’t be ready to go yet. Surely there is a way you can save your couch from being taken away!

Homemade Pizza

This recipe is for Red Tractor #RTChallenge. This is my fourth recipe for the Red Tractor challenge. This time round I am baking pizza. I had slightly modified my Chinese steamed bun recipe to make this pizza base. Using strong white flour makes the base firmer and chewier. If you prefer less chewy, then add more plain flour. Instead of milk, you could use water instead. As I mentioned I think milk gives a nicer flavour/fragrance.

How to build a blanket fort?

This half term, we have been busy entertaining and playing with both of our monsters! Why monsters? Because they have boundless energy tearing up the house and we need endless ideas to keep them happy and entertained. I do believe that nothing beats activities that use their own imagination. Not only does it keep them entertained for longer, but often it requires minimal costs. So get their thinking caps on and maybe use items for recycling and engage their imagination to build their own hideaway at home. This involves a lot of mess though but it is a brilliant way to get them out of the way. Or maybe not!

Preparing the Lawn for Winter

Our garden was really well used last year from parties, gatherings but mainly the children playing. After such abuse, the lawn was not looking too great during the winter of 2012, so we have really made an effort to look after our lawn this year.
