Pass the Bomb Review

1 July 2024 by Eileen

Pass the Bomb has been entertaining families for over 25 years and has sold over 1 million copies in the UK. This is their fresh modern look which comes in a compact rectangular box. It also comes with a handy storage bag for when you are on the go. This simple, fast-paced word game is from Asmodee UK.

pass the bomb review

It is suitable for ages 8 and onwards and for two to twelve players. Inside this box, it comes with instructions, 110 double-sided letter cards, a special die (with three different faces), a storage cloth drawstring bag and a small red bomb. The time bomb requires two AAA batteries which are not included. It does not have an on/off button and there is only one button to activate the timer. The timing is random and can go off any time between 10 to 60 seconds!

To play this game, shuffle the letter cards and deal 13 cards into a pile with the same colour facing upwards (either blue or red). The rest of the cards should be returned to the storage bag. The first player will start taking the bomb and rolling the die. The die will decide whereabouts in the word the letters may be used.

The die has three different faces. With ‘Tick’ on the die, letters may not be used at the start of the word. With ‘Tick.. Tack’ on the die, letters may be used anywhere in the word. Rolling an image of a bomb, letters may not be used at the end of the word.

Now flip a letter card and start the bomb. Once you say an acceptable word, pass the bomb to the next player and it is their turn! Players have to think on their feet and make sure they don’t run out of time. If the bomb explodes in the player’s hand, they will have to take the letter card. After all 13 letter cards have been used, the game ends. The winner will be the player with the least letter cards in hand.

This is a fun game that gets all of us thinking and helps sharpen our grammar! Pass the Bomb is available to buy from John Lewis, Argos and Amazon.

Disclosure: I received this board game through ComeRoundUK (October 2023) for free.
