Have you ever struggled to find your local takeaway menu in your house? We do in our house. They are often misplaced or they get recycled or we simply have too many of one type that you can’t see the wood for the trees. Another frustration we have is that small local businesses tend not don’t have their own websites or they never update it so we’re unable to check online either. Last week, I had to send my husband to drive 3 miles to get a takeaway (we lost the menu for this particular favourite of ours) and he had to phone me from there to tell me what they have as this local takeaway has no website.

Mission Impossible with Spy Gear
Night Goggles (For 6 years and above)
This is the coolest gadget that I, ummmm okay, my son has ever owned. The bright LED lights and blue tinted lenses enhance the night vision. It is very bright and clear to see. There is a foldout scope and 2x magnifying lens to enhance the target tracking ability. These make Mr K feel like a real spy. We’ve all had fun with these, turning the light off in the bedrooms and using the foldout scope to place a target on the wall. They are comfortable to wear with elastic strap to adjust. The battery compartment does slip down occasionally but once it is tightened it is fine. This requires 3 AAA batteries which are not included.
Forensics Reconstruction Kit
Have you ever wanted to be a CSI or do you love to watch crime stories and wonder how they solved a crime? One of my Halloween party ideas is to play this Forensics Reconstruction Kit to entertain the older children and adults this Halloween!
Moshi Monsters: Poppet Beads
Today, we decided to have a lazy Saturday day in with lots of activities and of course a movie and popcorn! Arts and crafts is always a regular activity we love to do as a family. This Poppet Beads set came at just the right time! This Moshi beads is from Vivid Toys and Games. There are 1400 beads in eight different colours. We placed each colour into different pots to help keep the table tidy! For the grown-ups, I found that having surgical forceps helped. It’s probably not a regular household item but a pair of tweezers would work just as well too!
APPen: Colour, Play, Learn
APPen is a brand new line of kids electronic toys and accessories from GPTech, that allows children to enjoy learning, writing and colouring on a tablet. The app is compatible with the majority of android and iOS tablets. Recently, I did have issues when I updated to the latest iOS7 release which caused the app to stop working. So I had to go to Settings, click Privacy, select Microphone and then set the APPen to YES. The app is free to download and it can be used with or without the APPen. The APPen does not require batteries; simply plug it in via the headphone socket of any compatible tablet.
Invite Sleepover Fairies to your house
Do your children believe in fairies? Do you still make an effort to tell them fairy tales and magical kingdoms? My little Ms C was thrilled when she saw this beautiful Miss Alice The Tooth Fairy. She was immediately drawn to her and played with her for hours. She is about 20 cm long, very beautiful and soft. She came in an individually themed stunning gift box that doubles as a cute bed to tuck Sleepover Fairy up at bedtime.
Remote Controlled Illuminated Solar System
Do you know how the universe started more than 10 billion years ago with a Big Bang? Also do you know that the sun is one of a 100 billion stars in this one galaxy? I have a space mad son who loves to learn about the solar system and one day when he grows up, he wants to become an astronaut. Earlier in April, we had even turned Easter eggs into the solar system.
My Very Own Rainbow Projector
Do your children love rainbows? Want to bring a rainbow into their bedroom? You’ve got to get the My Very Own Rainbow Projector by Brainstorm Toys for 4 years and above! The projector uses multi-coloured LEDs to display rainbow colours on walls and ceilings in a darkened room. Ms C is fascinated and absolutely loves it! Unboxing the projector, I was a little surprised that the projector is loosely place inside the box without any extra packaging. It must be pretty solidly built to have survived delivery. It also comes with a sunlight crystal and an information leaflet. It takes four AAA batteries and it is not included. It does come with a socket for an optional power adaptor.
Roasted Chicken with Hainanese Rice
Both of my children were in full time school today which gave me plenty of time to do my favourite hobby – cooking! One food I always like to cook is roast chicken as it is fairly straightforward. I am so excited that I am able to participate in the Great British Food Fortnight blogger challenge with OXO again. This week, instead of cooking traditional British food, I replaced potatoes with rice. I added the Hainanese sauce that I bought from the Chinese supermarket into the rice and cooked it in a rice cooker.
So while waiting for the chicken to cook, I had used the OXO Good Grips Julienne Peeler with some carrots and stir fried with Chinese leaf and runner beans.
Time to Respect and Remember
If you recall, a few weeks ago I had blogged about Respect and Remember. This new range of gift items are all in aid of The Royal British Legion Women’s Section. The RBLWS is a membership organisation for women which provides care and support to the Serving and ex-Service community. For over 90 years, their welfare schemes have helped thousands of men, women and children within the Armed Forces community who are in financial hardship or in need of extra support.A proportion of the sales from all items in the Arthur Price Remember range will be donated to The Royal British Legion Women’s Section. Please help support them as much as you can.

I’ve always loved Ladybird books since young. They have so many classic stories and I recall I owned a series of hardback books with a ladybird on the side. Now Ladybird have turned some classic tales into ebooks. Ebooks have become increasingly popular nowadays as you have the potential to bring your whole library of books along on your travels. I personally have so many different ebooks for children on my iPad already. So what makes Ladybird so unique?
