Mission Impossible with Spy Gear

1 October 2013 by Eileen

Night Goggles (For 6 years and above)

This is the coolest gadget that I, ummmm okay, my son has ever owned. The bright LED lights and blue tinted lenses enhance the night vision. It is very bright and clear to see. There is a foldout scope and 2x magnifying lens to enhance the target tracking ability. These make Mr K feel like a real spy.  We’ve all had fun with these, turning the light off in the bedrooms and using the foldout scope to place a target on the wall. They are comfortable to wear with elastic strap to adjust. The battery compartment does slip down occasionally but once it is tightened it is fine. This requires 3 AAA batteries which are not included.

Field Agent Spy Watch (For 6 years and above)

This 8 in 1 watch features world time, secret spy communications tools and a decoder screen, all protected by armour. Mr K loves this watch and his old digital watch we bought for him last year is but a distant memory. He loves the flip-out decoder screen and the secret message capsules. Simply write your message in the special spy paper in pencil and roll it up and hide it in the capsules. To read your secret message, flip out the decoder screen to read it! He did set his own motion alarm and it activated when we walked past his watch. However, the alarm is a bit too quiet but this is fine as a toy. There is also a night vision light on his watch!  It is so cool to shine the light in the dark! The watch also included a world time clock which Mr K struggled to understand but he will get there soon! As Mr K is of quite a small build, the watch is a bit loose on him.  But again, he is only 5 turning 6 soon!

Micro Agent Motion Alarm (For 6 years and above)

This useful gadget is great for guarding your private possessions. The alarm will sound if any intruders cross the invisible beam. Both children have had a lot of fun with this trying to booby trap everyone as it’s so easy to use. Just place in position and turn on. The alarm is not too loud and it is sensitive enough to activate when you walk past the invisible beam.

Spike Mic Launcher (For 6 years and above)

Delivers super spy audio surveillance. The special dart has a built in listening device. Just fire, stick and listen. With live audio feed, you can hear conversations happening in far away locations. Get all the intel you need. We’ve found this a bit difficult to use as a dart. In particular, attaching the dart to the rubber slings is quite awkward. The dart itself has a sticky rubber end, which we’ve had limited success with getting it to stick to anything from firing alone. So we’ve resorted to sticking it down by hand or placing it covertly in the room which has worked just as well. It also comes with a black suction cap tip to swap which hides neatly inside the launcher. The sound is quite clear when it is very near a person. It does lose signal if you stray too far (after approx 6 metres). There is a headphone socket which can be used instead of the speaker and we’ve found this to provide a clearer sound. This requires 4 AAA batteries which is not included and you also have to charge the Spike Mic dart u sing the launcher before use.

Stealth Com Walkie Talkies (For 8 years and above)

We test it on both children and they absolutely love it! They can both keep in constant communication in different rooms. This is a stealth throat mic that leaves you hands-free. It fits around theirs and our adult necks nicely as there is adjustable arms. The clip-on earpiece should  only go to your right ear.  For the first few uses, we found it hard to activate them but now it is quite simple to do so. We have to select the right channel A or B, straighten the antenna for best signal and press the SG button until you hear the confirmation beep. The sound is clear but it does lose the signal if either person strays too far. This requires 2 x 2 AAA batteries that are not included.

Panosphere 360° Spy Cam (For 8 years and above)

Mr K couldn’t wait to unbox this one. The camera is capable of taking photos and video.  We did have to help Mr K download the material to a PC to view the spy footage via USB cable. There is an advanced editing function to download free from spygear.net and you are able to share it on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. It comes with a 2GB micro SD card which you can swap out with a larger capacity SD card. A 2GB card is able to take approx 2000 photos and 15 minutes of video. The camera swivels 90° only so it is important you know how to position it. Inside the capsule, a strap is included that lets you wrap it around a pole or awkward position. It also comes with a suction cup bracket to use it on glass, mirror or windows. This cam is an excellent piece of kit! The quality of the photos and videos is good. Both of my children were in fits of laughter just by seeing the video clips they covertly took of their daddy’s bum when they planted it next to his seat! Overall, the cam is light and easy to use.

This Autumn, an ordinary boy is carrying his little lunch box to a secret location. Watch this trailer: https://youtu.be/_Xm8qPx3Rwg These are the six Spy Gear gadgets featured in the trailer:

Overall this Spy Gear kit is excellent and it takes children’s imagination and role play to another level.  Both of my children have had a lot of fun pretending to be spies. I rate this 5 stars out of 5 for innovation, creative and imaginative play. Please note that these are toys and not designed for real life espionage.

They do look absolutely brilliant. The videos are great – short and snappy and ‘to the point’ – my boys just watched them all!
