Rubik’s: 50 Years of The World’s Most Famous Cube

28 October 2024 by Eileen

Many people will know what a Rubik’s cube is, but did you know this year, they are celebrating 50 years of the world’s most famous cube? This book is a must for any Rubik’s fans. It charts its history from its creation in 1974 by Ernő Rubik to how it has become a visual icon and global phenomenon.

Rubik’s 50 Years of The World’s Most Famous Cube

This book came out last week on the 24th of October 2024. I am so lucky to have received it. We love the Rubik’s Cube in this house, especially my son. He used to be able to solve the cube in under one minute.

This book is published by the White Lion Publishing, an imprint of the Quarto group. They have teamed up with Spin Master in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Rubik’s® Cube to offer Rubik’s: 50 Years of the World’s Most Famous Cube book.

My earliest memory of the Rubik’s Cube was in my old house. My sister always had one on display and she has never been able to solve it. As a young child, was quite OCD. In the end, I peeled off all the labels and stuck them back in their colour order! Many years later, my son started to play with the cube and there was a bit of a club going on at his school. He could consistently solve it in under a minute. We were so impressed and proud of him. He learned the algorithm from watching YouTube videos.

Anyway, let’s get back to the book. This book explores 50 key moments in the Cube’s life with a foreword by the cube’s inventor Professor Ernő Rubik. There are great quotes, fascinating stats and facts, fun photos, timeline, useful websites and many more. We have previously reviewed many Rubik’s puzzles in the past, like the Amazing Box of Tricks, Edge, Cage, 2×2, 3×3, Orbit, Spark, Junior and many more.

The book is a hardback in a small square shape. It will make a great addition to a Christmas stocking for any fan. It is available to buy from good bookstores and Amazon.
