Top Stocking Fillers – Rubik’s Cube

5 November 2019 by Eileen

Christmas season is the time for giving and sharing, it is also means shopping time! I know it is not everyone’s favourite thing to do but I do hope you like the variety of gift ideas we have shown on our Christmas Gift Guide 2019 that was published yesterday. Now it is time for us to share the top stocking fillers!

Did you know that this year, a new survey shows a third of parents would buy Rubik’s as a stocking filler for children this Christmas? The survey, which had 2,000 respondents, also included chocolate and stationery as top stocking solutions. My husband and Mr K are big fans of the iconic colourful Rubik’s cube. They both knew how to solve the puzzle within five minutes. Now Ms C is hooked into the easy to play Rubik’s cage!

rubik's review

Rubik’s has fascinated curious minds since the 1980s, and the iconic colourful cube is enjoying a retro revival and a 2019 reinvention to boot. Whether you are looking for a stocking filler or a new family favourite, Rubik’s is a brand that continues to delight each generation!

Rubik’s Edge

Rubik’s Edge is the brand new Rubik’s range that comes in a single layer puzzle with nine cubes in the square. It works the same as the 2 x 2 or 3 x 3 where you turn, twist and rotate it to find the 192 possible permutations.

This is the most played cube in this household. Ms C will set the challenge and Mr K loves to try and solve it within one minute. This Rubik’s Edge is a lot easier to play and both children love the short burst challenge. As I mentioned, it is well played and some of the stickers have already come off the cube. It is a little disappointing as it is not made like the revamped cubes which have coloured plastic pieces. Instead, this is like the original cube that had coloured stickers on it. Otherwise, this is a very fun challenging toy! It is available to buy from good toy retailers, online and Amazon.

Rubik’s 2×2 and 3×3

These Rubik’s 2×2 and 3×3 have brand new mechanisms that result in a smoother, faster and more reliable Rubik’s Cube. The traditional stickers have been replaced with plastic; which means no fading, peeling or cheating!

The 2×2 Rubik’s Cube consists of 8 corner ‘Cubies’ and operates in much the same way as its biggest brother – The Original Rubik’s Cube.  This smaller Cube can be more easily slipped into a pocket or bag, making this perfect puzzle for on the go.  They are great gift for younger and new puzzle enthusiasts who may not be ready for the full 3 x 3 challenge.  It might look easy – but don’t be fooled, it is still a challenge with 3,674,160 permutations.

Rubik’s cube is a challenging mind puzzle that will never go out of fashion and we would recommend it.

Rubik’s Cage

This is a fast-paced, fun game of strategy where you drop it in, twist it and flip to try to get three cubes in a row. Ms C loves this game as it is much easier to play. It might look easy but it is not that easy to win! By twisting, turning and flipping the cage, it gets re-shuffled and it can derail any opponent. The player with the most rows wins the game.

Of course, with a bit of imagination, you can also use the cubes to build something else or make your own challenge. It is available to buy from good toy retailers, online and Amazon.

Rubik’s Orbit

This is a puzzle with a twist! The aim is to solve all six sides of the 360 rings to have a matching colour all the way around. It features the traditional Rubik’s colours. I love the quality and it’s a nice twist to this classic game. It is available to buy from good toy retailers, online and Amazon.

Rubik’s Match

This is the ultimate brain teasing card game where players must race to build the pattern on the Challenge Cards using their own Cubie Cards. The first person to complete the pattern is the winner! It is available to buy from good toy retailers, online and Amazon. For a full list of stockists, visit www.johnadams.co.uk.

So which of the Rubik’s products catches your eye the most? Currently, Rubik’s Edge and Cage are my children’s favourite!
