Be careful of the zombie burrito! This half term coincides with the Halloween season, so we were excited to receive this Zombie Burrito game from Come Round for review. This is another range of dodgeball fight party card game where Survivors team up against Zombies from the Exploding Kitten team. We have previously reviewed the Throw Throw Burrito Extreme edition. Do check it out!
Inside the sturdy box, it has two cute-looking hand-sized squishy foam burritos, 116 cards, six team markers (three zombie cards and three survivor cards) and instructions. If you don’t want to read the instructions, why not visit their page, and watch the video which explains it to you. It is very straightforward! It is suitable for three to six players, and ages seven and above.
Each game involves two teams, the Zombies and the Survivors. If there is an odd number, always add an extra Zombie card to the pile. Deal each player one team marker card so they know which team they belong to.
Just like any of the Exploding Kitten burrito range games, you will need to collect 3-of-a-kind sets as fast as you can. Some cards give Survivors special abilities, some help out the Zombies, and some incite an epic battle between the living and the undead. During a battle, it is up to you and your teammates to knock out your opponents with a squishy Burrito. The goal of the game is to be the first team to win three battles.
This game is best played in a large area free from breakable items, like vases, lights or antiques as it can get raucous during battle. A large table is ideal for placing the cards.
To play the game, shuffle the deck and deal out two piles of 15 cards face down in the middle of the table within reach of all players. These are the Community Piles. Also, leave some room for a Community Discard Pile.
Split the remaining cards evenly between the players. That is their Personal Draw Pile and place it on their right. Each player should take the top five cards from their Personal Draw Piles and look at them.
To begin the game, pick someone to count down “3, 2, 1, Zombie Burrito”. Now try to get three matching cards as quickly as you can by discarding cards in your hand (one at a time) and drawing new ones from your Personal Draw Pile. It can get quite frenetic so it’s probably best to not bother with the mess and collect and swap the cards as quickly as possible.
When a battle is declared, all other gameplay stops. For the first few plays, it took a while to get into battle mode as we had to read the cards properly. If you win the battle, you flip over one of the opposite team’s Markers. Once your opponent’s Markers are all flipped, you win!
It is super exciting when someone yells for battle as we have to quickly shield ourselves from the flying burritos! There was plenty of running, ducking, dodging, throwing and screaming!
This game is fun to play but it does get confusing. We all enjoyed it and had fun! It is a great family game to get everyone involved. Although the game is themed for Halloween, it can be played during all seasons. It is available to buy from good toy retailers, online including Amazon.
