Top 12 Destination Wedding Locations

31 December 2022 by Eileen

Picking the right location is like taking one long step towards creating a dream wedding experience. But for many couples, finding the perfect location that is conducive and meaningful can be quite challenging. Of course, you can always have your big day event in your hometown or even your backyard, which is relatively easy to pull off. But you may also prefer to look to far-off destinations, where the challenge of picking the perfect location sets in – the choices are endless. So whether you’re looking for a historical location, mountain views, lake views, deserts with a touch of luxury, or a serene beachside scene, here are some of the top destination wedding locations you can pick from.

Top 12 Destination Wedding Locations

  • The Bahamas

The Bahamas remains one of the most visited locations worldwide, and understandably so. This collection of 700 islands has everything you need for a truly amazing wedding experience if you’re looking for a beach view. You can host your wedding guests and entourage in one of the many beautiful resorts in this location. And after the wedding, you’ll have no reason to rush back home, as the Bahamas has everything any newlywed will want for a romantic honeymoon. The Bahamas also balances luxury and affordability very well. That means, compared to other luxury wedding destinations, this is a place you can fit into your budget and save for.

  • St Thomas and St John, US Virgin Islands

Many travellers consider the US Virgin Islands one of the most hassle-free travel destinations in the world, which is great if you don’t have enough time to make your dream wedding happen. St Thomas and St John are ideal locations for fun, relaxing, and memorable weddings. The US Virgin Islands are very popular wedding destinations, so they may sometimes feel crowded. Nonetheless, the natural, unspoiled beauty of St John and St Thomas always makes a wedding trip to this location worth it. But if you want to avoid tourist crowds, you can set your wedding date anywhere after April and before December. Also, avoid the hurricane season, usually between June and November.

  • Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta is also perfect for couples looking for a beach-view wedding location like the Bahamas. Nestled perfectly on the Pacific coast, it offers breath-taking views that will wow your guests and a relaxing scenery that will make everyone feel at home. When it comes to capturing every moment, you can be sure that all your wedding photos will be amazing. You will also find good food and drinks to satisfy and refresh your guests. You can pick from one of the many private villas in this location for a private wedding. Alternatively, you can opt for a spacious hotel if you expect a large turn-up.

  • Marrakech, Morocco

Africa offers beautiful destinations you can use as your wedding location. And one such place is Marrakech in Morocco. Morocco is known for its vast deserts, but few people get to experience the vibrant colours and textures this location offers. Thankfully, the word is spreading, and more and more people are beginning to flock to this location for their wedding events. Marrakech is the number destination for most couples here. Places like the Taj Villa and La Mamounia are perfect for couples seeking a getaway-style wedding experience. The villas are luxurious, the food is tasty, and the people’s welcoming nature will make you want to extend your wedding celebration.

  • Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como is the definition of luxury for top wedding destinations, but it also offers something traditional. Consider it a classic type of luxury, without the designer fashion stores and flashy cars most modern luxury destinations have. This location is authentic and exudes organic, old-school, aristocratic luxury. So if that’s what appeals to you, then Lake Como should be on your wedding destination list. Beyond the scenery, you’ll find almost everything you need to complete your wedding, from good food to floral solutions. You can also find expert photography services like Vittore Buzzi Photography, ready to take unique and amazing shots that complement the location and the wedding event, giving you memories to treasure for a long time.

  • Belize, Central America

Away from Italy, Central America’s Belize is another wedding location to have on your list. Suppose you’re looking for an eco-friendly place to host your wedding. In that case, this is it. Belize boasts an extensive barrier reef, dense and lush jungles, a beautiful coastline, and an oceanfront straight out of your dreams. You can exchange your vows with any of these settings as your wedding background. But be sure to check the season when booking, as Belize is known for its rainy season, marked by intense intermittent storms. For the best weather, it’s best to book between January and May. But if you can’t limit your options to January and May, consider the next location.

  • Shiraz Garden, Texas

This location may have raised your eyebrows, as it’s not your typical wedding destination. But if you adore America’s Southwest cowboy culture and are looking to plan your wedding in America, then you can’t go wrong at Shiraz Garden in Texas. Shiraz Garden is filled with lush greenery, calming waters, and a naturally therapeutic environment overlooking the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

  • The Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Italians are famous for their food and spectacular wine. So, if these two are at the top of your wedding priority list, don’t think twice about booking a spot on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. But this destination isn’t only about food and wine. Many travellers have the Amalfi coast on their bucket lists for several reasons. The sights are breath-taking, with an endless stretch of sparkling sea punctuated by soaring cliffs. Rest assured, you’ll be spoilt for choice when taking wedding pictures. You’ll also find luxury hotels, enchanting beaches, and beautiful towns. If there’s one location where your guest wouldn’t mind digging into plates of pasta all day, this is that location.

  • Santorini, Greece

Remember Puglia’s whitewashed hill towns? Santorini takes it a step further with a mixture of soothing shades and upscale venues, blending to give a magical wedding location. Little wonder Santorini is one of the most photographed places in the world. The turn of almost every corner offers a breath-taking view, spoiling you with choices. The whitewashed buildings stand proudly on the southern side of the Aegean sea, offering a sharp but spectacular contrast to the deep blue sea that embraces them. There are also villas and different wedding venues to choose from. But it’s best to work with a local service provider to make the most of this wedding location.

  • Puglia, Italy

Yes, it’s another Italian entry, but this time, a location with a rich history. Perched at the heel of the country’s “boot,” Puglia has farmlands that date back centuries and whitewashed hill towns only a few places in the world can boast of. Its Mediterranean coastline wraps all the scenery. And speaking of scenery, there are loads to choose from, regardless of the wedding style you want. You and your wedding guests can also enjoy various post-wedding activities like dinners and parties. Additionally, since the place is a popular wedding destination, you’ll find many local vendors and wedding service providers ready to work with you. So you wouldn’t have to worry about flying a team of service providers with you.

  • Istria, Croatia

Croatia’s coastline competes with the world’s best as the most magical. You will find picturesque seaside towns, vistas that will take your breath away, and sparkling blue water that exudes calm, peace, and beauty. Istria’s rocky beaches also set the location apart from other popular wedding destinations. And while many may prefer sandy beaches, this rocky option gives you one very important advantage – less competition, meaning you don’t have to worry about tourist crowds or deal with a booking rush. But that’s not all; the food in this location is as excellent as the wine. And there are loads of entertainment options to keep your guests entertained. Those who love water-related activities will find several options to choose from. Other guests can explore the location’s mediaeval towns.

  • London, England

This list will not be complete without London. London has it all – world-class hotels, top-notch facilities, amazing views, delicious food and drinks, 5-star restaurants, endless entertainment options, and expert wedding services. However, you may have to work on your budget, as London is known to be quite expensive. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any affordable venues you can pick in this location; you only need the right connections. But once you sort your budget, you can’t put a foot wrong hosting your wedding in London.

London combines the classic, modern, traditional and high-tech in one location, with centuries-old structures blending perfectly with modern ones.

Planning your wedding is an exciting period and involves many essential aspects, including your destination, which can add a special touch to your wedding memories and photos. With the above-listed destinations, you are spoilt for choice.
