Vincent van Gogh is one of the most well-known post-Impressionist artists, who was not truly appreciated in his lifetime, left one of the most startling artistic legacies of the late nineteenth century. I have been fascinated with his works ever since we visited the Van Gogh Museum during our trip to Amsterdam two years ago. This troubled genius’s “Portrait du Dr Gachet” painting sold for a record $82.5 million in 1990, 100 years after his death!
One of the many highlights of our Amsterdam trip were the visits to museums and art galleries using our Iamsterdam card! We bought the 72 hours Iamsterdam card online which gave us free entry to Amsterdam’s best museums and attractions, free canal cruise, free unlimited use of the GVB public transport in Amsterdam (bus, tram & metro), great discounts & special offers throughout Amsterdam & its surrounding area, a free, detailed city map, free giveaways & discounts on concerts, theatre, rentals, restaurants, etc. In order to take make the most of the card, we visited as many museums and galleries as we could!
