Where does milk comes from?

Does your children know where their milk comes from? Based on new research from Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons, it reveals one in five children between the ages of four and eight don’t know that milk comes from cows and over a fifth of five year olds (23 per cent) think that chocolate is made from eggs.where does milk come from cadbury dairy milk button

Halloween Spooktacular at National Forest Adventure Farm

Even though it was raining cats and dogs yesterday, it didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves at the National Forest Adventure Farm. They have plenty of indoor soft play areas that are suitable for ages. Also, the Halloween activities like the Scare School, Broomstick Training, and Witch Whispers take place in the indoor Courtyard café area.

This year in their 10 acre JCB Maize maze, it will feature an intricate design of a huge JCB digger and include three miles of pathways, viewing towers and bridges to navigate. You can either take part in the maze trail to collect the parts needed to build a JCB or a shorter mini maze in the shape of the JCB logo.

Fun in Beaudesert Park Farm

Having lived in the Midlands for seven years, there are still a lot of places we have yet to explore. Last week, during the Easter break, we went to Beaudesert Park Farm for an education tour hosted by Aiming High via Staffordshire Council.

Helpfully, I had my TomTom Sat Nav to give me a helping hand to find Beaudesert Park Farm. We were greeted by Mary, the owner and her helper who guided us through the whole session.

Firstly, we made crumbs for our apple crumble for dessert. Both children enjoyed making a mess while kneading the crumbs. They were so excited!

Can you believe it is going to be spring time soon? Hooray! We can’t wait to spend more time outdoors now! Yesterday, we went the National Adventure Farm which is located in Burton upon Trent, within an hours drive from Stafford, Stoke, Nottingham, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Leicester etc. It is quite easy to find the place. National Forest Adventure Farm Review

Earlier this week, we went to the National Forest Adventure Farm which is located in Burton upon Trent, within an hours drive from Stafford, Stoke, Nottingham, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Leicester etc. We are only 30 minutes away, driving up the A38. There is plenty of free parking plus disabled parking right at their entrance.

This year, National Forest Adventure Farm are aiming to break the Guinness World record for the largest display of scarecrows! The best scarecrow creations will win an annual family pass to the farm. You can either bring your ready-made scarecrows into the farm or make one in their Scarecrow Workshop for free if you bring your own clothes or for just £1, they will provide everything you need to make one!

After you make your scarecrow, remember to tweet your selfie photo with a hashtag #scarecrowworldrecord #scarecrowselfie. This is my children and I choosing clothing for the scarecrow.

TOMY Johnny Tractors and Friends Review

The TOMY John Deere pre-school range is perfect for engaging pre-school (18 months to 3 years old) children in farm play.  This collection of non-scale, tactile soft-touch plastic toys comes packed with many features such as lights, sounds or special rubber finish.  The durable chunky models are ideal for small hands and the cute characters are sure to be a huge hit with toddlers.

Although both my children are too old, they are still great for farm role play or even you could ask the children a few questions about the toys.

Suggested questions:

  • What sound does a tractor made?
  • What does this tractor do?
  • How many animals are there on the tractor?

TOMY Britains Farm Toy Die Cast Metal Review

Tomy have a new range of Britains Farm Toys which are 1:32 scale models made from die-cast metal.  These are suitable for age 3 onwards.  These models are great for role-play and development, and are suitable for indoor play and are collectible.

We were sent these four Britains Farm Toy 1:32 range: John Deere 7930 Tractor, John Deere 990 Round Baler, Land Rover & Sheep Trailer set and Spearhead Orbital Reach Mower.

John Deere 7930 Tractor

This die-cast tractor is very realistic, well made and robust.  It comes with rubber wheels with front steering function.  At the back, it has a standard hitch compatible with 1: 32 implements.  It is operated by a single click to attach or detach the implements.  The exhaust pipe, mirrors and hinge are made from soft plastic.  So you have to take care to not throw nor drop the tractor as it might break the soft plastic.

These chunky models are great for role-play and development and suitable for indoor play too.

Hatton Adventure Farm Family Day Out

Hatton Adventure Farm is located in the Warwickshire countryside with many family activities to offer for young and old.
We all had a great time there and I would highly recommend them to anyone. These are our highlights of the farm:
1. Tristan the Runaway Tractor
This is an adventure to look for Snorty as his mum hadn’t heard from him for a couple of days. We all hop on the Runaway Tractor and explore the farm. Both of my children were very excited to look for the clues. In the middle of the journey, we had to detour as there were sheep blocking the road.
I don’t want to spoil the surprise but do expect to get wet!
We had to leave our pram at the start/end point. I personally think that this is not suitable for pregnant women as the ride is quite bumpy.

A Birthday Party at Ash End Farm

August is not just school holidays for us, it is also the busiest time for birthday parties. I have over 20 friends with birthdays in August! Luckily, we only had two parties to attend.
Today, we went to Ash End House Childrens Farm for I’s 2nd Nursery Rhyme birthday party. We all gathered at the outdoor play area for the meeting point. The weather was gorgeous and the children played happily. Once everyone turned up, the birthday guide who was a lovely young lady, led us to the goat building. She had a quick chat with the children about what to do and what not to do before they got to feed the hungry goats! The children were so excited as they not only feed the animals, they also get to stroke them.

Pick Your Own (PYO) Fruits Farm

June is always associated with Wimbledon, Strawberries and of course Summer! It is the start of the fruit picking season and HAY FEVER!
Last week, we went to Manor Farm Pick Your Own (PYO) at Tamworth and picked strawberries and gooseberries. As for the rest of the fruits like Blackberries, Blackcurrants, Redcurrants, Tayberries and Loganberries, these should be ready around end of June.
Unfortunately, after walking down the second row of strawberries, the trip had to be abandoned. My son and I suddenly got swollen eyes and the hay fever started. But it is great that both of my children enjoyed looking for and picking big, juicy strawberries through the thick leaves!
