A Birthday Party at Ash End Farm

20 August 2012 by Eileen

August is not just school holidays for us, it is also the busiest time for birthday parties. I have over 20 friends with birthdays in August! Luckily, we only had two parties to attend.

Today, we went to Ash End House Childrens Farm for I’s 2nd Nursery Rhyme birthday party. We all gathered at the outdoor play area for the meeting point. The weather was gorgeous and the children played happily. Once everyone turned up, the birthday guide who was a lovely young lady, led us to the goat building. She had a quick chat with the children about what to do and what not to do before they got to feed the hungry goats!  The children were so excited as they not only feed the animals, they also get to stroke them.

Soon, we moved into the chicken hatchery where the children got to meet the newly hatched chicks and sing a birthday song to Isabel! Mr K had one sitting on his head while Ms C preferred the chick to sit on her lap. They also got a basket full of chicks to go around the children to stroke all of them.

Next, we popped into the Pig Passageway to view the orange Tamworth rare breed pigs and piglets. It was accompanied by an unbelievable strong stinky smell.  Luckily we were just passing by!

We went into the Shires House Centre which was opened in 2009. All the children got to sit on a horse.  Ms C was not so keen on the horses and refused to sit on them but happily watched her brother have a go.

We then went on to meet more animals like the sheep in the sheep shed and ducks in the pond. Sadly, it was the end of the tour and we were given 10 minutes to play at the outdoor play area within the farm. They have a huge Jumping Pillow that looks like a colourful pillow, big wooden tractors, swings etc. We all had our dinner at the party barn. The children got to eat sandwiches, drinks, Kit Kat, a packet of spicy corn snacks and an ice lolly. To be honest, I was amazed that the young children were served a spicy snack! I am not impressed with this. Both of my children hate it. It was too spicy for them for their liking. As for the adult, we get a free coffee/tea and delicious sandwich.

I marveled at how Mr K allow the chick to lie on his head, isn’t he afraid that the chick might poo on. Him. Haha. He is really a man who is game for anything.
