Ways To Style Your Dresser

25 June 2020 by Eileen

Your chest of drawers plays a really big role in the aesthetic and decor of your room. If your dresser is in your bedroom it is probably the biggest piece of furniture aside from your bed. In the living room or the entryway, it may be an added touch to the decor already in the room. The great thing about dressers is that they are multifunctional. They can serve as great storage space as well as a way to add detail and eccentricity to the room it is in. Here are some steps you can take to style your dresser.

Ways To Style Your Dresser

Clean It Off First

It can be really annoying moving or decorating something that is littered with clutter. Clean off your dresser. Take everything off the top and wipe it all down, removing things like dust and grime. This is also a good time to get rid of anything you are not using. Also, get rid of things that do not belong on the dresser. You want to make sure you are starting with a blank canvas so your imagination is not distracted by the mess on top of your dresser.

Give Visual Balance

As mentioned, your dresser will likely be one of the largest things in the room. It is important to provide visual balance by placing something large on the wall above your chest of drawers like a big piece of artwork, a collection of smaller artworks or a large mirror. Another option is to place your drawer underneath a window.

Add Key Pieces

These pieces can really tie the whole look together. Depending on the look of your dresser, those key pieces can range anywhere between a lamp, houseplant, a vase filled with flowers, a jewellery box or a tray to house all those things together. It is recommended to pair your dresser with something tall like a tall houseplant or a tall pillar candle.

Ways To Style

Knowing the basics of how complete the look of your dresser is one aspect of styling your dresser. Your chest of drawers does not have to live solely in your bedroom. There are plenty of other places where a dresser could work.

You could put it in the entryway of your house or apartment. This could be really helpful for keeping track of things like keys and mail without cluttering the dining room or kitchen table. Your dresser could also double up as a TV stand. The dresser can store all your media equipment like the cable box, WiFi router and the cables. Get a drawer that sits the same height as your couch and use it as a sofa table. This is a great option if you have an open floor plan. Adding the dresser as a sofa table can help divide the room.

Another option to style your dresser is as a side table. A dresser as a side table is very convenient because it can provide extra storage to hold your books, video game controls or even your remote.
