Improving your Home with Accent Features

7 January 2019 by Eileen

A new year, a new start to this 2019. I am not talking about starting a new relationship but building a new relationship to love your home again. These days, we tend to lead a busy lifestyle juggling and getting the right balance between family and work. This means we tend to overlook the home we live in and there’s always a bit of wear and tear. We don’t realize it until we take a good hard look at our surroundings, especially after a good Christmas break. So here are a few ways of improving your home with accent features.

Improving your Home with Accent Features

Add Accent Colours to your Windows

Whenever there is space on the window sill, people tend to clutter it with photo frames or houseplants which potentially block the natural light. So if you have windows that have the potential to catch a lot of daylight, remove things that may be blocking the natural light. Maybe think about switching out heavy curtains and thermal blinds for a material that is a little lighter like linen or cotton from Direct Blinds.

Neutral colours materials are always a treat because they pair well with bright and dark colours. Bright colours can bring a fun vibe into your home, while dark colours are bold and elegant. When using dark colours as accents, you might want to consider using natural materials such as wood, metals, and stone.

Use an Accent Wall

Create an accent wall by painting it with a different colour that you have used in the rest of the space or wallpaper it with vintage, fabric, floral or patterned wallpaper.

Furniture & Miscellanies

If you want to keep the costs down, maybe try rearranging your furniture to help with transforming the space. First, go through room by room and then visualizing the space. Next, move any big items around and you will see the impact it made on the space. It will make you fall in love with your home all over again.

If you have a budget, why not consider buying an inspirational piece of furniture, modern artwork, accent rug/sheepskin, or even a throw that you love! These little details will surely add life into your home to build upon.

Flowers & Houseplant

If you can’t decide on colours, then keep it simple. Instead of stressing, start off with neutral walls, and introduce colour slowly through a favourite vase filled with flowers, or opt for houseplants.

Many people change their accent colours based on the time of year, so don’t be afraid of trying to be bold. Try to keep the walls and windows as neutral as possible and throw in any accent colours to bring life to your home!
