Monopoly Fortnite Review

13 December 2018 by Eileen

Last month, Monopoly Fortnite was revealed as one of the 12 ultimate toys of 2018 by the DreamToys organisation! This game is inspired by the popular Fortnite video game and now it is not about what players own; it is about how long they can survive in this Monopoly game! To win, you have to be the last man standing, just like the game!

Although this game is suitable for aged 13 and above, both of my children were super keen to play it! Mr K is a big Fortnite fan and he is loving this! This board game is suitable for two to seven players and it features well-known locations as properties, and players aim to earn Health Point chips instead of Monopoly money to stay in the game!

Monopoly Fortnite review

In this version of Monopoly, you don’t start on GO! Instead, players can place their character anywhere on the board, just like the game version where players parachute to a location and everyone is well spread out to try to avoid getting attacked early in the game.

This game comes with a game board, 27 cardboard outfits with pawn stands, 15 Storm cards, 16 location cards, 16 loot chest cards, 8 Wall cards, 1 numbered die, 1 action die with labels, 110 Health Point tokens and instructions.

Each player starts with 15 Health Points (HP) tokens and they can pick any one of the cool 27 cardboard Fortnite outfits. Take turns to roll both numbered and action dice, and move accordingly. You can choose your action first before making your move. You can build a wall by rolling a brick on your action die. When you roll a Boogie Bomb, all other players lose 1 HP to the Bank, and all walls are destroyed. If you roll the crosshairs, you choose a player in your line of sight to pay 1 HP to the bank! When you roll the bandages, you get to collect 2 HP from the bank to heal yourself (maximum each player can get for HP is up to 15 tokens only). I love the action die as it gives the game another dimension to the usual format.

In this game, you also able to collect loot chest items and pass GO to unleash the Storm; avoid it or lose HP.

This game mimics the video game very well and it is very fun and quick to play. No doubt this is going to be our favourite board game of the year! We love it and it will appeal to Fortnite fans and non-fans alike. You get to claim locations, battle opponents, avoid the Storm to survive and be the last man standing! It is available to buy from good toy retailers, online and Amazon.
