3 Picnic Spots in the Midlands

10 October 2014 by Eileen 1 Comment

Autumn has finally arrived and is in full swing! I always love autumn as I enjoy the crisper clearer air, the changing colour of trees and of course you don’t get crazy daylight at 10 pm which makes it difficult for the kids to sleep! With the October half term fast approaching, Vita Coco kids has set us a mission to find the best autumn picnic spots across the UK.

3 picnic spots in midland

We live in the Midlands and are surrounded by mostly fields and am not far from canals. We are lucky to have a lot of beautiful parks around our area.

These are the three picnic spots we would always go to within 30 minutes reach from our place.

  1. Beacon Park: It is set in more than 70 acres of beautiful gardens and open space which has recently been renovated and a lot of the park’s and garden’s historic features have been restored. There is a fantastic children’s play area, a wildlife walk, basketball court, tennis courts and an 18-hole par-3 golf course. They also regularly host events like the Lichfield Bower, Lichfield Prom, Car in the Park and others. There is plenty of green open space for a picnic too! Besides all that, they have toilet facilities and a café. It is a fantastic place and is within walking distance to the nearby shops and restaurants.
  2. Barton Marina: Barton Marina is a unique Trent & Mersey canal-side attraction with fantastic cafés and restaurants, shopping, cinema and fabulous walks around the beautiful lakes and woodlands. We love to take our children there for a bike ride around the lakes and to eat ice cream. Parking is free and there are plenty of open spaces for picnics too!
  3. Chasewater Country Park: Chasewater is perfect for a stroll, picnic, feeding ducks & swans, children’s play area, watching birds, running, cycling, catch a steam train ride or photographing the wildlife. There are regular exhibitions in the Forest of Mercia Innovation Centre and craft workshops. There are big open green spaces for you to picnic and parking is free too!

These are our top three picnic spots around our areas. If you ever pop by, do visit them!

Disclosure: We have received a picnic basket for the purposes of writing this challenge, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
