Making bread is one form of baking that I always like to do with my children. It’s such a simple food yet the smell never fails to make your mouth water. Ms C loves her bread and the only bread she eats is plain! We can’t get her to eat any other bread, like cheesy bread or even bread with sesame seeds. So this half term, we made bread together to go along with her soup.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 teaspoons easy-use yeast
- 1 teaspoon caster sugar
- 350 ml lukewarm water
- 500 g strong white bread flour
- 2 teaspoon salt
I was provided the list of ingredients by a Singaporean friend.
Method:
- In a large bowl, mix all the sifted flour, yeast, salt and sugar together and add lukewarm water to knead a dough for 10 minutes or until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it stand in a warm place for about an hour or until it doubles in size.
- Take it out and knead again on a lightly floured surface.
- Shape the dough into the greased tin (with butter).
- Cover it with a damp tea towel and leave to rise in a warm place for a further 30 minutes.
- Place the tin in the oven for 30 minutes in a preheat fan oven of 200 °C.
- Once cooked, take out the loaf and leave it on a rack to cool down.
Ms C had so much of fun kneading the dough and thought she was playing. When ready, she was so pleased with her baking that she forced everyone to have a slice of her bread even though we were so full with soup!
