This is my third collaboration with Science4you. Last month we mixed up chemicals to make a balloon without blowing and the month before that, we had fun building a plane! This month we are mixing up slippery slugs! It is called Slimy factory!
This extensive kit from Science4you helps both of my children to explore molecules and slime. This kit is suitable for aged 8 onwards and since my son is aged 7, I helped him with some of the experiments to ensure he used it safely.
Slimy Factory has 17 experiments and contains: protective goggles, gloves, pipettes, test tubes with lids, plastic cups (80 & 100 ml), plastic cups (25 ml) with lids, plastic container, 60 ml flask (for calcium chloride), 120 ml flask (for sodium alginate), wooden spatulas, mould for slimy animals & bouncing ball, plastic bags with zipper, green & red food colouring, calcium chloride, gelling powder, sodium alginate, magic powder and guar gum. Also it comes with a 36-page coloured book providing detailed instructions and scientific information with 17 experiment ideas printed for you to do with your children.
In order to do the experiments, it requires you to mix up all the chemicals (experiments 1 – 3) before you can perform the rest of the 14 experiments. It took me at least 10 minutes. So it is always best to open up the kit and read the book before showing it to your children.
My son loves mixing it and making green worms using the kit. Everything is included in the kit which is so convenient. Next he made a bouncing ball that does bounce really well. He enjoyed the whole experience and is very pleased with himself.
Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
