Breaking Norms With Modern Wedding Trends and Ideas

27 September 2020 by Eileen

Most people consider weddings to be very traditional fare. One of the biggest draws to weddings is that we embrace old traditions and cultural specialities that make each wedding unique. However, those traditions will eventually be replaced by new and modern alternatives that completely change the way we approach our big day. So in this post, we’ll be talking about some of the latest wedding trends that could change the look and feel of your wedding.

Breaking Norms With Modern Wedding Trends and Ideas

Shoot, edit and show your big day as a film

Modern technology has given us powerful laptops that can function as portable video edition stations. When combined with small and powerful video recorders, it’s actually possible to record every moment of your big day, edit it in just a few hours, and then show it back to your guests during the dinner. This is a wonderful way to showcase your big day and it’ll also help you save your memories on film so you can replay them in the future or show them to your children.

You can either do this with a group of friends and family members, or you could hire a service to do this for you. We highly suggest hiring a service so that it frees up the time that you and your guests have. However, it’s never a bad idea to have someone watching over the process and giving them some general guidance. If you go for a high-tier service, you’re guaranteed to get a director that’ll be more than willing to listen to your suggestions and implement them in the final product.

Adding more dietary options to your menu

It’s the small wedding details that’ll make your big day stand out and be more memorable. One of the biggest things you could do is actually provide lots of dietary options for your guests. These days, there are more and more people who are aware of their eating habits and will try to pick foods that are better for their health. For instance, you might find that some people will ask for gluten-free options, or you might need to plan a diverse vegan-friendly menu to appeal to your guests. You don’t want them to be afterthoughts, so try and work with your catering team to develop lots of unique and interesting meals for everyone to try.

If you prefer, you could actually do away with the traditional wedding dinner and switch to something that offers more freedom such as a buffet. This is a great way for people to try out different foods and it’s generally more sociable as well. You’ll need to establish a rather large buffet if you’re feeding lots of guests, but it’s a fantastic way to avoid the issues that come with trying to appeal to many different dietary needs during your big dinner.

Supporting social media usage at your wedding

Social media is all the rage with younger audiences, but it’s also used by many young adults as well. They’re very likely to take pictures and videos, then upload them to Facebook or Instagram with various captions. This is not only a great way to share their favourite moments and pictures with their friends and family, but it can actually be a fantastic way to see what other guests are up to as well.

The key here is to think of a hashtag for people to use on a platform such as Instagram. Place it on message boards around the wedding venue and encourage people to share their favourite pictures and videos on the hashtag. After the wedding, you can look back at the hashtag to see all of the pictures and videos that your guests took. It’s a fantastic way to appeal to younger audiences while also being an effective way to archive lots of moments from your big day.

Unique modern entertainment options

There are plenty of different modern entertainment options for you to try out at your wedding. Here are some of the most popular ideas that we’ve seen:

  • Modern photo booths – A photo booth in the past would’ve been fairly boring, but these days, they’ve begun to pick up a thing or two from social media. You can now add lots of different filters to the photos, they typically come with fun props and you can even upload them straight to social media. Some booths even have wind tunnels or magic mirrors to spice things up even more.
  • An entire funfair – If you really want to be extravagant, why not hire an entire funfair? You’re going to need a lot of space to do this, but it’s certainly one of the most trends we’ve seen.
  • Wedding comedian – Whether it’s one of your guests or a professional service, a comedian can make your wedding a lot more fun and interesting. After a few drinks and a bit of food, comedians can be a great addition to keep the party going and add a bit of tongue-in-cheek humour to the night.
  • Video game hire – Between hiring arcade machines and setting up video game systems, there are lots of ways to add modern games to your big day. If you have a lot of younger guests, then setting up some kind of video game systems for them to play together can be a great way to socialise and bond. Some popular arcade options include ticket redemption-style machines or even dance pad machines.

This is just a few ideas for modern entertainment options that you can add to your wedding. We highly suggest that you try something unique on this list to add some flavour to your big day. If you’re having trouble thinking up some unique entertainment to add to your big day, then try to think of something that makes your wedding more personalised and unique to you and your partner. It’s one of the best ways to create a memorable wedding experience and truly set yourself apart.
