Is renting a Self Storage unit the answer to de-clutter?

9 October 2019 by Eileen Leave a Comment

Is renting a self storage unit the answer to de-clutter? Yes, but why? The answer is simple. These days, more people are living alone in smaller flats or homes without garages or attics. When they accumulate too much stuff in their home but they don’t want to get rid of their things permanently, storage can be the ideal solution to de-clutter by providing that extra space and flexibility just when they need it. It could also be creating some extra space for some home renovations or to make space for a new family member.

Is renting a Self Storage unit the answer to de-clutter

With extended access and conveniently located facilities around the UK, no wonder many people are making use of self storage as an extension to store their personal belongs, like schoolbooks, photographs, furniture and many more.

Self storage increasingly plays a vital part for many people’s lives, including us! About two years ago, we decided to sell our old place and re-locate to another town for a better choice of secondary schools. In order to stage an open and appealing viewing space for potential homebuyers to see, we decided to de-clutter and place items into storage. As we all know, people do buy into your lifestyle and keeping it clean and clear will help to sell the house more quickly! Fast forward a bit, we sold our place and rented a two bedroom flat. There were no rooms for the four of us! I am glad that we made the decision to store about two-thirds of our possessions!

What I love about putting items into self storage units are:

It offers convenience and flexibility. We could easily pop in to drop off or collect items at our convenience during their long opening hours. There’s no queues or other delays as you are free to grab your items.

Most self storage facilities offer optimal security like digital CCTV cameras, perimeter fencing, alarms and sensor lighting, and Shurgard Self Storage also offer an individual zone-specific PIN code and access to your unit with your own lock and key! They definitely look after your property. You can also opt for a higher insurance payout on top of your weekly renting if you wish to do so.

Your items will be kept in a clean, heated and ventilated unit to ensure they are kept in good condition and not grow mouldy or turn foul.

You are not tied to long term contracts. Most companies allow you to rent it for as long as you need or as short as just one week. When we were renting the unit, we opted for a monthly direct debit payment and any unused days, the payment was refunded to us very quickly.

Some self storage facilities don’t only offer self storage, they also offer a number of different services such as packing, free van hire services and free use of trolleys. It’s always worth looking around to compare which self storage facilities offer the best deal for you.

If you live in Reading, why not take a look at Shurgard Self-Storage Reading. If you are not sure what size of storage unit you need to hire, then you should try out their ruler ‘Calculate the size you need’. It gives you a clear picture of the amount of area you require! You can also do a virtual tour to check out their facility.

Clutter can have a negative impact on our mental well being. By removing clutter, it can help us to think clearly and to relax. So what are you waiting for? It is time to de-clutter!
