Untamed Dragons & Untamed Mad Lab Minis Review

21 April 2019 by Eileen

After the success of the Fingerlings and Untamed brands, WowWee and Jazwares are bringing another two amazing cool toys to their fans! These are the Untamed Dragons and the Untamed Mad Lab Minis, series 1, for this spring 2019.

Untamed Dragons & Untamed Mad Lab Minis Review

First, let’s take a look at this Untamed Dragon. The concept of this toy is the same as Fingerlings. Just like the Fingerlings Baby Monkey, Fingerlings Baby Dragon and Untamed Raptors Dino that we had reviewed before, these creatures are a bunch of adorable robotic adult dragons that simply wrap their claws around your finger, or you can hang them anywhere you like! They will interact with you and will show you affection once you have earned their trust.

The main difference in functionality between this dragon and other Fingerlings toys is that in each dragon, they are equipped with a uniquely coloured LED light in their jaws! It definitely adds a WOW factor to this fierce and unpredictable creature!

There are four different characters to collect including Venom (green), Wildfire (red), Freezer (white) and Shockwave (purple)! We are lucky to have Shockwave to try out! I love the dragon’s facial expression and lovely details on its body. It is very well designed and constructed.

Shockwave has an on/off switch behind its head that allows you to turn it off whenever you want. Its limbs, wings and pointy tail are made from slightly softer materials than the rest of it harder-plastic body. It comes with soft-to-touch red horns on its head that give a very fierce look! There are lots of beautifully printed scales all over.

Like other Fingerlings, it wraps around your finger very nicely and is not too heavy to hold. My daughter loves this new addition and enjoys interacting with it. It has two Cap Sensors located on the nose and the back of the head and by pressing and holding the sensors, it will show you a silly surprise! It is an inexpensive interactive toy that is great for keeping children entertained.

Next is their series 1 collectable Mad Lad Minis range that features pre-historic and beast miniature hybrid creatures. The collectable comes in a small pot that is filled with one of three types of compounds. It can either be a GeoSlime, BioSand, or TerraClay. The compounds come in green for the common creatures, red for the rare creatures, orange for the ultra-rare creatures, silver for the special editions, and gold for the legendary creature.

My daughter was a bit uncomfortable taking it out as she dislikes the slimy texture. Nevertheless, if you like GeoSlime or any of these compounds, you will enjoy unleashing your collectable! Will a Raptor, T-Rex, Allosaurus, Spinosaurus, Sabre-tooth Tiger, Dire Wolf, Bear, Polar Bear, Gorilla, or Skeleton be unleashed?

The head and body are detachable which means the more you collect, the more combinations you get by swapping its head around to create a brand new creature! Can you believe that there are over 1,000 possible combinations? There are a total of 34 creatures to collect, including raptor, sabre-tooth tiger, and skeleton.

Under each cap, you will find a disk with a QR code printed on it. Make sure you don’t throw away the disk thinking it is just rubbish, which I almost did! Next, scan the code using the official UNTAMED – AR MadLab app (only in iOS) to add your creature to your virtual Mad Lab! This is definitely great fun!

WowWee toys are distributed by Jazwares in the UK and are available from Smyths, Argos, The Entertainer, Asda, Amazon and more toy retailers, department stores and online.
