Utensa Wonder Bake Bakeware Review

2 June 2015 by Eileen 4 Comments

I recently came across Utensa who break the mould with innovative products that prove that weight is not an indication of quality. In fact, many professional cake makers actually prefer to use as lightweight product as possible to ensure an even bake.

Utensa have been manufacturing bakeware in Birmingham for the last 125 years and they have stuck to their commitment to provide quality products at favourable prices. The key factors are that their products have double layer roller-coat application of non-stick to ensure even coverage and extended life expectancy. Their products can last up to 8 times longer than typical Far East sprayed products.

These three new products, oven tray, an 8″ loose base deep cake pan and an enamel roasting tin product are super lightweight and made in Britain. Each product comes with a guarantee of between 5 to 20 years. They are all dishwasher safe but we don’t have one to attest to. I had to hand wash all of them. After over two weeks of abusing them, they all still look as new from day one.

Firstly, I used the oven tray to bake some cookies and pastries which I had totally forgotten to take photos. The tray is quite shallow measuring 36cm x 28 cm x 2cm. It is a great size for pastries. The pastries were easy to slide off and cleaning is easy.

Secondly, I used the 8″ loose base deep cake pan to bake various cakes from a chocolate cake to a sponge cake. Yes, I have been very busy baking cakes and made a Princess Castle cake for my daughter’s birthday. If you follow my Instagram, you will see lots of cake photos there! I love the British Gold colour bakeware as it is quite a unique colour from the rest of my black bakeware. The ring surface is matt and the cake slides off easily. Most of my bakeware does not pop out with the loose base, so I find that I am still quite clumsy when popping it out! The trick is to have the cake pan rest on a tin and wiggle the ring off. Be careful not to drop your cake and do grease lightly before use but not with olive oil.

Finally, the enamel roasting tray has been used on a very regular basis. I often roast chickens and BBQ chicken wings is one of our favourite dishes! I like the shiny finish and it is very lightweight which makes putting it in the oven very easy. This roasting tray is also able to use on stove tops which is not commonly found. Personally I have not had cause to try this out, so I can’t comment if it will burn the base. So far, the tray has been only used for roasting.

What I like about their products is that they are easy to clean and are lightweight. We have to hand wash all our items and with their double layer non-stick coating, it means washing up is easier. Also being lightweight, it makes it easier to handle which is especially important while hot and full of food. It is reassuring that they are British made which gives me great confidence in their products. Do check out the Utensa website as they have a huge range of bakeware, cake decorating and many more items.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
