Mr Monkey and the Magic Tricks

16 August 2014 by Eileen

Mr Monkey and the Magic Tricks is a book written by Linda Chapman and illustrated by Sam Hearn. This is the red Early Reader which is the next step on your child’s reading journey. It was released on 3rd July 2014 and published by Orion Books. We have previously reviewed the Mr Monkey and The Birthday Party.

The book is paperback containing about 80 pages with six chapters. The font comes in one size. It comes with full colour beautiful illustrations.

This is a story about Mr Monkey, who belongs to Class 2. He is more than just an ordinary toy. He is magic! No one can quite remember now how long he’s been at the school or where he came from, but once a week one of the children has to take him home and write a diary about their time with him. This week Ben is taking Mr Monkey home. Ben can’t stop Ian from Class Five taking his things. Mr Monkey knew this and wanted Ben to be more assertive. He taught Ben to speak up for himself and of course played a few tricks on Ian. Soon Ian learnt his lesson and left Ben alone.

The storyline is about bullying in school and how to be more assertive. It is easy to read and understand. This book is divided into chapters to break up the lengthy story. There are no big words in the book and very much suitable for my 6 year old son to read.

Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher for free. However, they have not paid me for this review, and they do not exercise any editorial control over my review or anything else on this site.
