Mr Monkey and The Birthday Party

7 March 2014 by Eileen

Mr Monkey and The Birthday Party is a book written by Linda Chapman and illustrated by Sam Hearn. This is the red Early Reader which is the next step on your child’s reading journey.  It was released on 6th March 2014 and published by Orion Books.

Mr Monkey and The Birthday Party

The book is paperback containing about 80 pages with six chapters. The font comes in one size. It comes with full colour beautiful illustrations.

This is a story about Mr Monkey, who belongs to Class 2.  He is more than just an ordinary toy.  He is magic!  No one can quite remember now how long he’s been at the school or where he came from, but once a week one of the children has to take him home and write a diary about their time with him.  This week Anya is taking Mr Monkey home.  Everyone is invited to Rachel’s swimming party on the next day but Anya was worried because she could not swim.  Mr Monkey used his magic and turned Anya’s Dancing Dolphins playset into a real pool, asking the dolphins Silver and Flicker to teach Anya to swim.  The next day, Anya went to the party and she did not need to wear her armbands and she even won a prize for being able to swim underwater.

The storyline is quite sweet and is easy to read and understand.  This book is divided into chapters to break up the lengthy story.  There are no big words in the book and very much suitable for my 6 year old son to read.

Do your children learn how to swim or are they afraid of water?  Both of my children are learning to swim and started when they were 3 years old.  This is a great life skill that is important to learn.  I am so glad both of them enjoy swimming and have achieved a great independence in water.  Next week is their distance test, so fingers crossed and hopefully they can pass their test.

Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher for free. However, they have not paid me for this review, and they do not exercise any editorial control over my review or anything else on this site.

This sounds like a great story, with so many class bears around it would be great for any child who has taken one home for the weekend.
