Recently, I went to attend Britmums live 2014 and was very pleased to meet the representative of A2 milk. Not only did I broaden my knowledge about blogging, I also learnt that there are different types of proteins in milk including ones called A1 and A2. Regular dairy cows produce milk that contains both the A1 and A2 proteins. I never knew!
Mr C always reacts badly when he drinks too much milk hence he often resorts to buying lactose free milk. He has never been properly medically diagnosed that he is lactose intolerant. A2 asked us if we would like to try out the A2 milk for two weeks and see if it makes a difference.
Studies show that the A1 protein breaks down more slowly in the body, and for some people this can lead to uncomfortable symptoms that are similar to those of lactose intolerance. But for many of these people, the problem isn’t lactose (which is the sugar in milk) at all – the A1 protein could be the issue.
At The A2 Milk Company™ they have worked with 20 farms in the Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales regions to identify cows from existing herds that naturally produce milk containing only the A2 protein and no A1 protein (It’s a hereditary thing & yes they are called a2 Cows).
Mr C has tried it out for two weeks now and it seems he didn’t really have lactose intolerance as he is able to drink this without any adverse effect. The milk tastes just the same as your usual fresh milk.
A2 milk can be found in most Tescos, Morrisons and Waitrose. I found it hard to find them in smaller stores but was able to purchase it from my local Morrisons.
