Buzz Wire Game #Shop with Energizer Batteries

26 March 2014 by Eileen

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser.

My son is generally very inquisitive and has always shown an interest in knowing how a lot of his toys work.  He once played a Buzz Wire game at a funfair and was fascinated by that.

So last week we challenged ourselves to make one.  We went to Maplin to get some items to build our homemade buzz wire game.  We bought the mini buzzer, mini LED light bulbs, insulated wire, bare wire and battery holder.

How to make your own Buzz Wire Game

Also, while doing my usual Tesco online supermarket shop, I ordered a range of Energizer batteries.  They had a deal on to buy two packs of 4 AA batteries for £5.  I do love online shopping as I find it easier to stick to the list and not get distracted by carefully placed sales/promotional items in store.  Navigating the website is fairly easily and I can do a shop within 20 minutes and get the delivery slot for a convenient time to suit.

I like to thanks to our friend who help us build this buzz wire game!

This is how we made:

1. HOMEMADE BUZZ WIRE GAME

Materials:

  • AA Batteries
  • Buzzer
  • LED light bulbs
  • Insulated wires
  • Bare wire
  • AA batteries holder
  • Duck Tape
  • Box lid (shoe box or gift box)
  • Thick ball plastic straw (to make a loop wire holder)

Tools:

  • Wire cutter and stripper
  • Scissors
  • Screwdriver

Instructions:

This is a drawing of how the electric circuit should look like.

Buzz Wire Game draw plan

Firstly, bend the bare wire to the design you like.  We decided to shape the wire into “Energizer”.  Poke one hole on each side of the box, tunnel it through the box and tape it down with Duck Tape.  Connect one side of the bare wire to the negative wire of the batteries holder.

Place the LED light bulbs on the top of the box as shown and poke a hole for the buzzer sound to penetrate through the box.  Connect the insulated wires from the battery holder to the LED light bulbs, buzzer and purple insulated wire with loop wire holder.

This is how it looks for the buzz wire circuit:

In this video, I explain how we made it and you can watch our friends and us have fun trying out our homemade buzz wire game! https://youtu.be/KG6fg1QO1gw

This is definitely a great science project to do with children and to teach them about circuits.  All of us had a go at the game and it was a great night with our homemade kit!  They all enjoyed it!

We also made another simple science project.  This time round, we used a light bulb that I found in one of the children’s torches.

Materials:

  • Batteries
  • Light bulb
  • Insulated wires
  • Duck Tape
  • Box lid (shoe box or gift box)

Tools:

  • Wire cutter and stripper
  • Scissors
  • Screwdriver

Instruction:

1. Strip off 1 cm of insulated cover and expose the wire.

2. Cover both ends of the battery with the insulated wire and duck tape, and then connected the switch and light bulbs as shown.

We did these at school, I remember. But it would be great to do with the boys.

What great ideas! Would love to do something like this with my son, he is very inquisitive too!

Online shopping is great isn’t it – so much easier than having to fight your way around a supermarket!
