TMNT Donatello & Leo Review

22 August 2013 by Eileen

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are one of my favourite childhood heroes.  Every Saturday, at my granny’s house, my cousin and I would always watch the shows and pretend we were the characters.  Even though that was over 20 years ago, I could still remember those days where we were fighting over who would be the goodies and who would be the baddies.

I am so pleased that we were sent Turtles Flinger Donatello and Mutagen Ooze Leo for review.  Mr K and Ms C are very excited to play with them!  Mr K immediately chose Leo as he has blue colour on him and so Ms C had Donatello.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Flinger Donatello

Turtles Flinger Donatello

He is a 6 inch tall figurine that is able to fling his bo staffs over his shoulder. To launch the weapons, you need to roll the figure sideways (either left or right) on a hard flat surface like a wooden floor.  We tried it on carpet and it didn’t work. There are wheels on the bottom of both feet. The right arm then will reach back, grab the bo and fling it forward! It can fling half a metre or further. It does take a bit of practise before Ms C was able to launch the bo staffs.

The bo is made from soft rubbery material.  The left arm is able to move 360 degree and his head too.  His purple bandanna is also made from soft rubbery material.

 Mutagen Ooze Leo

I don’t like this word ooze!  It just sounds messy to me but not my little mischievous monkey who picked this. Yes, Mr K! He just loves messy play and fighting.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ooze Leo

Leo has a 360 degree swingable waist, arms and head. Inside this box, it comes with an 11 cm tall Leo, pick, three mini blue ooze and a packet of blue ooze. To launch the real ooze, you need to screw off the top and pour it into the can. It will flow out from the container through the ooze spout by pushing down the plunger. The ooze is a sparkly soft gel. It can be quite sticky. We launched the ooze a few times and our volume of ooze has gone down quite considerably. The leftover ooze is best kept in a sealed bag/container. Do remember to put the pick into the spout after playing to avoid the ooze drying up.

If you are not keen of using the ooze, you can launch it with the mini ooze.  They are quite small and we thought we had lost one while fighting eventually found it on the kitchen floor which is miles away from the place we played. So do be careful with younger babies around. As they are quite small and easy to swallow by babies.

Watch our video of how it works: https://youtu.be/kfNTQ0V2JK8

Both items are suitable for aged 4 and above.  They are well made with realistic features.  There is plenty of play value in them as they can play with the figurines without using the flinger or ooze.  Both weapons can be detached from their bodies.  Any TMNT fans will absolutely love them.  They would make a very nice birthday or Christmas gift for both boys and girls. Do take a look at their Flair website as there are other TMNT figurines too.

Disclosure: We were given these samples for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

these look really fun I’m sure my nephew would love these, but I do think I prefer the original style Ninja Turtles, I guess that because that’s how I grew up with them.
