Earlier this week, I was invited to attend the Official Monopoly Empire UK Unveil at Hamleys. We were the earliest people to arrive as the staff set up the store. While we were waiting to get a peek at the game, Mr K and Ms C were each given an air guitar balloon and colouring to do. We also met up with my friend Anna Marikar. Please read her post here. These are a few photos I took while I was there. I used Wondershare video editor to share this photo video. https://youtu.be/ScRTqPmroVU
For the first time in history, the new Monopoly Empire game features world-class brands, such as Coca-Cola, Xbox, McDonald’s and Samsung – creating a new Monopoly gaming experience where players collect, buy, and trade top brands and companies – rather than property – in a quest to “own it all” and win the game. If you recall in an earlier post, I had mentioned Monopoly Empire as one of Argos Top Christmas Toys for 2013. I am very excited to get to play them.
After the event, we were given the game to take home to try and we love it! This game is suitable for 2-4 players and for 8 years and above but the core simplicity of the game, I think, makes it suitable for younger. We have a junior monopoly already and since both of my children aged 4 and 5 already enjoy that version, they enjoyed playing this version too.
In the box, it also comes with:
- Game board
- 4 Towers
- 6 Tokens: Coca Cola, X-box, Chevrolet, Ducati, McDonald’s and Paramount.
- 30 Billboard Tiles
- 6 Office Tiles
- 14 Chance Cards
- 14 Empire Cards
- Money pack
- 2 Dices
This is a quick and easy game compared to other monopoly games. In this new game board, there are only 9 slots instead of the usual 10. Each brand will have a billboard tile instead of the property card to collect. The dices are slightly different as one of the dice has a picture of shaking hands – called the sneaky swap where you are able to switch the topmost billboard in one tower in any other towers including your own. Now I am able to swap a low value brand to the most valuable brand! The chance and empire cards are also different. They are no longer a boring instruction by asking you to pass to the next street. Now you have special cards which demands other players pay you money if you run out of cash or you can said NO to other one who challenging you. What a great idea!
In this game, it is hard to predict who will win this as there is always a twist in the game. We all enjoying playing with this new game and I would highly recommend it to anyone as it is a great game to involve the family! It’s no wonder they make it on to Argos’ Top 10 Christmas Toys. It is a big hit in my family. Now I can’t wait to bring this out and play with friends!
Disclosure: We were given this game to blog about our experience playing the game, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
