Top 10 Panoramic Views of London

14 July 2013 by Eileen

I’ve been fortunate to live in London and whilst there, I did try to make a regular trip to go and explore this great city. To get a better vista, why not try ascending one of these fabulous attractions for sweeping panoramic views of the city:

Top 10 Panoramic Views of London

  1. 1. Greenwich Park and Observatory – The park offers great views of historic Greenwich and the River Thames, alongside the modern metropolis that is Canary Wharf and Greenwich Peninsula. The Royal Observatory which is located next to the main Greenwich Park viewpoint.
  2. London Eye – what better way to enjoy the sights than to take a ‘flight’ in an air conditioned capsule on one of the tallest Ferris wheels in the world? We have been on once and they had a long queue. It is best to buy tickets online to avoid the crowd. Always look out for 2 for 1 deals to get the best offer!
  3. St Paul’s Cathedral – as well as enjoying this iconic cathedral for the history and architecture, did you know you can also climb to the Golden Gallery to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across London? Do you know it is famous for the Royal Family’s wedding and where they held Princess Diana’s funeral?  It is worth going to have a look. Do check their opening times.
  4. The Shard – visit the tallest building in Western Europe for truly breathtaking views across the city spanning up to 40 miles. They are only opened in June last year. I would love to check them out soon.
  5. Tower Bridge Exhibition – enjoy stunning London views from the high level walkways and continue to the Victorian Engine Rooms to learn about the inner workings of the most famous bridge in the World.
  6. Up at the O2 – this unforgettable 90 minute experience will take you on an uplifting guided expedition across the roof of The O2 via a tensile fabric walkway suspended 53m above ground level.  An observation platform at the summit will enable climbers to take in spectacular 360° views of the London before descending back to base.
  7. The Monument – for stunning views of the city, climb the 311 steps of The Monument which was built in the 17th century to commemorate the Great Fire of London and to celebrate the rebuilding of the City. The admission for adults is only £3 and £1.50 for children. What a bargain!
  8. Greenwich Park / Emirates Air Line – start with a stroll along Greenwich Park for spectacular views of the Docklands and beyond. Then ride on London’s cable car and cross the Thames between Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks. Make sure you use your Oyster card for a 25% discount too. I used to visit the park about once a month but this was prior to the Emirates Air Line so I will need to try this out soon.
  9. Hampstead Heath – go for a stroll over one of London’s largest parks, stopping by Parliament Hill for stunning views of the city.
  10. Alexandra Palace – the People’s Palace is surrounded by 196 acres of beautiful parkland, and grounds that boast a pub & restaurant, ice rink, boating lake, pitch & putt course.  From the park, you can get spectacular panoramic views of the city skyline.  The building is breathtaking!

This is one place I MUST take the boys to – I used to live down south so have visited most of these places, but it is high time we went as a family! There is a challenge for myself!

Some great scenery. I haven’t visited London for about 10 years but my husband was there this week and brought back some great photos. I think it is a definite for a holiday next year as Little Mr A really wants to see all the sites.

I love Hampstead heath, another one you didn’t put is the gherkin, once we went to the restaurant at the top of there and it has great views. very lucky to go cos its exclusive i think invite only but my brother was working in one of the offices there at the time. Meaning to go to the top of the shard too i think they also have restaurants there to relax and enjoy the view
