PS3 Review: Rise of the Guardians

13 July 2013 by Eileen

Zavvi has kindly given me the Rise of the Guardians game for the PS3 to do a review.  Besides PS3 console games they also sell DVD, toys, gifts and others. If you have not heard about or watched Rise of the Guardians, this is a little background information: “Rise of the Guardians” is about iconic characters from childhood legends brought to life to save the innocence of youth from an evil creature named Pitch.

PS3 Rise of the Guardians

Last weekend, we had a busy few days but we managed to squeeze in a gaming session before dinnertime. My husband played with my 5 year old son. Please be warned that this game is rated for age 12 and above which seems a little high to me (the movie is a PG). Of course, we are supervising him while playing.

This game can be played with up to four players provided you have the controllers. Each player can take control of Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy, The Sandman, The Easter Bunny, and Jack Frost as they battle through levels based on realms from the film. Each of the characters has different attack animations and special moves.

So far we have only managed to played about 10% of the game. The graphics are very detailed and the worlds that we have visited are sumptuously created. The controls of the characters are intuitive and we all picked it up quite easily. In truth, it’s not too complex of a game and once you’ve mastered the attack button, you’re on your way! That’s not to say it’s boring though as you can swap characters throughout the game and each character has different strengths and weaknesses. Progression through the game relies on fulfilling specific tasks and the adventure builds as you battle Pitch and his evil nightmares. I rate this 4 stars out of 5 stars.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
