Make a Chinese meal with Fresh Gourmet

3 July 2013 by Eileen

Fresh Gourmet is the biggest provider of salad toppings, especially croutons, in the US and have brought their delicious products exclusively to UK Tesco stores to inspire us Brits to become more creative with our salads. The range includes three crunchy croutons flavours – Cheese and Garlic, Basil Pesto and Sea Salt and Cracked Black Pepper – along with Crispy Onions and is ideal for people who like a salad in the summer but need that added texture to jazz up the dish.

Fresh Gourmet have set us a challenge to encourage people to get creative with their salads. I am taking part to experiment with the new Fresh Gourmet range and create a salad recipe to blog about. As a Chinese-born person, salad is not a regular part of our diet. So instead of creating a new recipe with salads, I cooked up something a bit differently.

In many Chinese meals, we use crispy onions to add crunch to the stir fried chicken with vegetables. This is a very simple side dish.

Ingredient:

  • 500g of dice chicken thighs
  • A stalk of broccoli
  • Chopped garlic
  • Black bean garlic sauce
  • Oil
  • Fresh Gourmet Crispy Onions

Methods:

  1. Bring water to boil and blanch the broccoli.
  2. Heat the wok and add the oil. Add the garlic and fry until it begins to brown and releases the flavour, then add the chicken.
  3. Stir fry the chicken for 2-3 minutes then add the broccoli and stir fry until it is all cooked.
  4. Add and stir in the black bean garlic sauce.
  5. Serve and add the Crispy Onions as a garnish.

Adding the onions not only brings flavour to the dish, it also adds crunch.  The crispy onions are nicely cooked and very tasty.

Next, I cooked a stir fry vegetable and added the sea salt and cracked black pepper croutons. There are so many ways of eating these. Add it to salad, soups etc.

Ingredients:

  • 500g of mushroom
  • A stalk of broccoli
  • Chopped garlic
  • Oyster sauce
  • Oil
  • Fresh Gourmet Sea salt and cracked black pepper croutons

Methods:

  1. Bring water to boil and blanch the broccoli.
  2. Heat the wok and add the oil. Add the garlic and fry until it begins to brown and releases the flavour, then add the mushroom.
  3. Add the broccoli and stir fry until it is all cooked.
  4. Add and stir in the oyster sauce.
  5. Serve and add the croutons as a garnish.

Add the croutons for a fun and new experience to Chinese foods. I love giving a crunch to my vegetables and they taste so delicious.

So what will you do differently? What would you like to use them on?

Disclosure: We were given these products to enter Fresh Gourmet’s competition and won the competition.

Wow this has got my taste buds going and imagination running riot especially with the crispy onions & Chinese veggie salad ( Chinese leaf, straw mushrooms, brocoli, garlic add some colour with coarsely grated carrot tossed in a wok quickly with Chinese 5 spice and served with crispy onions on top ) 🙂
    Wonderful post 🙂

I love Chinese food but I find it difficult to buy ready-made sauces that taste anything like what i by from my favourite Chinese restaurant! This all looks yummy. i already buy croutons but this has tempted me to buy the crispy onions too!
