Aggie MacKenzie’s Probiotic

21 February 2013 by Eileen

Our UK nation’s best-known cleaning guru, Aggie MacKenzie, is widely recognised for her top tips on how to keep your home healthy, germ-free and sparkling. She has taken her experience, her wish to reduce the over-reliance upon harsh chemicals and anti-bacterial cleaners, added her favourite fragrance, and decided to bottle it. The result is a breakthrough for healthy homes – Aggie’s Probiotic cleaners.

Aggie MacKenzie's Probiotic cleaning products

What does Probiotic means?

To be honest, I thought that probiotic is an ingredient normally found in yoghurt. I didn’t really expect the bacteria to be added to cleaning products but Aggie has added the friendly bacteria to these products.

According to Aggie’s products, it utilises the power of probiotics to give longer-lasting protection from harmful germs than ordinary anti-bacteria cleaners. They combine with a tough cleaning action for higher standards of hygiene and will keep on working after you clean.

It sounds very convincing to me, especially as I am a fan of Aggie. I love to watch Channel 4’s How Clean Is Your House? whenever it is on. I always found it useful to learn the different cleaning methods and the scientific findings. I love how they swab to test for different types of bacteria. Each time, I am always wanting to nominate my mother in law to go on to the show and get her house cleaned.  Now I have six of Aggie’s cleaning products, I think I will have to share with her too.

There are a total of 18 products in Aggie’s range, all using revolutionary probiotic technology to clean, deodorise and remove causes of allergies in homes. I am testing six of her products which are:

  1. Bathroom Cleaner
  2. Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner
  3. Multisurface Cleaner
  4. Power Stain Remover
  5. Shoe & Trainer Freshener
  6. Hard Floor Cleaner

Packaging:

The packaging does not look like any normal harsh looking household cleaning products. I would say it has a traditional look with it’s pastel colours and polka dots.  The instructions and labels are easy to read. I don’t think they will stand out in the supermarket shelf but it is definitely different from others!

Bottles’ Spray:

Most of the products that I am reviewing come with this type of spray. You are able to turn it to spray narrow, wide or off. They are easy to press with one hand. No fuss at all. Just remember to lock it, after use.  As children won’t be able to tell that is a cleaning product. Although it is non-toxic, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Smell:

All of my six bottles have a grapefruit and lime smell and it does not smell chemically like other cleaning product. It is natural and non-toxic.

I used the Shoe & Trainer Freshener for all my trainers. They leave a very faint smell on the shoe soon after I sprayed it. It was not very strong and the smell didn’t last long in the shoe at all.

Stain Remover:

I tried the Power Stain Remover on the carpet on the stairs. It was very effective. It removed the black stain mark made by shoes very easily by using a small amount of the product.  It can be used on stained clothing before you put it into the wash.

The Carpet & Upholstery is more for cleaning newly-made stain marks from food, drink spills, mud etc.

Results:

I am very impressed and happy to use all the products as it does what it says on the labels.

The Hard Floor Cleaner come with an easy screw measuring cup and it is easy to pour and use on the floor. It cleans up all the greases and muddy footprints from my children’s shoes.

The Multisurface Cleaner is ideal for work surfaces, fridges, microwaves, taps, stainless steel sinks, play pens, changing mats etc.  It cleans without leaving any white foamy streaks.

This is the result of using the Bathroom Cleaner:

These watermarks came off very easily without any scrubbing.

In Aggie’s Channel 4 programme, she is always teaching the viewers how to make their own cleaning products by using a bit of vinegar mixed with water or using lemon juice etc.

So, I asked myself, why would I buy/recommend these products?

The reasons are simple. Firstly, as a very busy mum, buying these products are so much more convenient than raiding your cupboard to make your own mixtures. Secondly, it has the probiotics which gives me some peace of mind that it’s providing long lasting protection. All sounds good to me! You can get all these products through Amazon.
