Learn to read with the Alphablocks Volume 1

21 February 2013 by Eileen Leave a Comment

As mentioned before in our previous post for DVD’s review, we are big fans of the Cbeebies channel. My children, especially Mr K, loves to watch many of the shows including Alphablocks whenever it is on.  However, now both of my children are in school full time, they miss at lot of their favourite shows. The DVD is due for release on 25th February 2013.

Learn to read with the Alphablocks Volume 1

We have Volume One: Phonics First Steps where they introduce the first letters and sounds that children are taught at school. It starts them off by making simple words.  Mr K is an expert with his phonics as he has been taught in school. It is very useful for Ms C as she is starting Reception this coming September. She has been very keen to repeat every word they mention. Ms C is only 3 years old and has a short attention span. So it is nice that each episode are fairly short, at approximately 4 minutes long. The programme is very engaging and both children enjoyed every minute of it.

There are 18 episodes in total and the DVD lasts approximately 86 minutes. So there are plenty to watch. It also comes with a free Alphablocks Alphabet poster. It is colourful, clear and easy to show to my children. The poster is not very big, so it won’t take up too much of the wall space. I rate this DVD 5 stars out of 5. It was great to watch and learn together with the children! I myself found this DVD very useful as I was not taught phonics at my school so I can learn with them.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
