Elephant’s Birthday Bells

5 June 2013 by Eileen

Elephant’s Birthday Bells is a book written by Carrie and David Grant who are from the creators of hit CBeebies series Pop Shop. It is part of a brand new range of six energetic picture books, all about making music! It is illustrated by Ailie Busby and the book is suitable for ages 3 to 7. It was released on 3rd June 2013 and published by Egmont Books Ltd.

Elephant's Birthday Bells

Just a little information about the book. It is paperback containing about 32 pages. The font varies in size and is simple and easy to read by young school children. Each page is beautifully illustrated with a lot of action. It includes a CD with 7 tracks including narration throughout, a sing-along song and lesson plans written by Carrie and David.

The story is about along with Meercat, Sheep, Giraffe and Polar Bear, meet Elephant, whose trumpeting is too loud for the family band. Ms C loves Elephants! When she saw the book cover it was enough to get her really excited. I put the CD on and it was the opening theme tune – Jump Up And Join In.  After the intro, Carrie and David narrates the story about how they learn to to sing and play loudly or softly. My children really enjoyed the book. They were giggling and dancing all the way when I put the Ella, Ella, Ella elephant song! This is a short clip of them dancing: https://youtu.be/gMfcEAm7t74

I rate this book 5 stars out of 5. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.  It encourages children to be active and enjoy music. The lesson plans are very useful for parents like me who does not know the basics of music. In the last section of the book, they teach you how to make jingle-jangle bells.  This book is not only fun, simple and enjoyable with great illustrations, it has great content.  Note, I would suggest that this book is not suitable to read at bedtime as it requires lots of actions.

Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher for free. However, they have not paid me for this review, and they do not exercise any editorial control over my review or anything else on this site.
