Creating A Space For You, Physically And Emotionally, In The Home

22 October 2019 by Eileen

You’re not alone; it’s something we’re all going through. If your life seems hectic, out of control, and you need somewhere to decompress and destress, you need to find a spot that is entirely for you. And while a lot of people find that they need to get out, and embrace the great outdoors, what if you don’t have the opportunity to get so far? You can find a private space that’s just for you, in your home, without having to build a major extension onto your home. Let’s provide you with some suggestions.

Creating A Space For You, Physically And Emotionally, In The Home

What About Your Garden?

While you may feel that you can’t get out and enjoy the tranquillity of the garden, especially during winter time, you might be able to find a way to create, not just a little bit of shelter, but an actual space for you to go and relax. While you may like the idea of setting up a shed, you can go one step further and purchase a garden room. This is one of those areas that doesn’t just make you feel like you are relegated to sitting in a cold, damp shed. But it also somewhere that’s a logical extension to the home and communicates that same sense of warmth. A garden room is something you can decorate completely to your style. Or if you want to turn it into something a bit enticing for you so you can get away from the constant foot traffic in your home you are getting away from the house.

Do You Have A Spare Corner?

While we’ve all got problems in terms of literal space in our home, we feel that if we want some actual privacy, we’ve got to find an actual room. But what if you don’t have a spare room? Instead, think about a corner. It may not seem so so practical, or even enticing. But a spare corner is a great way for you to make the most of the space you have. This is especially true for those people who live in a flat or a pokey living room. We have to remember that a spare corner is something that we can personalise. If you have a baby, and they don’t have a room for them right now, you can still make a space personal to them by decorating a corner. Take the same mindset, and start to decorate somewhere that feels like a different space. In one respect, it may seem a little bit on the muddled side, aesthetically. But if you want to get away from the trappings of your home, tricking your brain into feeling like you are somewhere else is crucial.

Is There A Room Gathering Dust Or Junk?

It’s a pretty logical option when you think about the abundance of junk you have. But it may be the fact that you don’t necessarily have much in the way of space. But what if this room “needs” to house a lot of relics of your home? Perhaps you need to get into the habit of decluttering? If there’s a room gathering dust, it’s an absolute waste. So, once you get into the habit of doing this, you’re making the most of the space. But also, it could be somewhere for everybody to escape to. But if there’s a lot of items that need decluttering or there are things you cannot bear to part with, it’s important to put them into storage. Or, at the very least, find another way to house those items. But if storage is still an issue, you could get into the habit of storing items vertically rather than putting things around a specific area. Naturally, if you set up a spare room, it might not be just for you; what you can do is use this room as a blank canvas and turn it into a room that serve many purposes. For example, if you are keen on relaxing or meditating, you could set up a corner of this spare room and make it a meditation space. You can then decorate it accordingly. As well, if the place needs to be a study, you can put a desk in another corner. And before you know it, you have got one room that serves many different purposes.

Remember, It’s Not Necessarily About Finding Privacy, But It’s About The Right Hobby

But what if you don’t have the space? Finding the right space is a perfect opportunity for many to have a sense of privacy. But sometimes we need to engross ourselves in something, so we are making the most of quiet time. It’s not necessarily about getting away from everything but finding a method in which to go into ourselves. We can take inspiration from people that work in busy offices. Not everybody can thrive in a noisy environment, so they have to find ways in which to go into themselves and focus on the task at hand. If you find the right hobby, this is one way for you to focus your energies on something rather than stressing about what’s going on around you. But at the same time, you may want to find little hacks to distract yourself from the outside world. It’s a small thing, but there is a lot that a pair of headphones can do! Some sites and programs play binaural beats, which can put your mind into a certain state. And this, in combination with the right hobby, can prove to be a very engaging activity. Naturally, we can’t all get away from the noise in our household. But when the activity is right, it can certainly distract us for a short time. If you have the opportunity to find a space that’s a little bit private, but the activity is absorbing as well, this can prove to be beneficial across the board.

Creating a space that’s just for you isn’t just about the physical, but it’s about the emotional as well. Hopefully, you will get the quiet that you deserve, regardless of how you go about it.
