Engagement Rings: Choosing The Perfect Design

6 December 2018 by Eileen

While traditionally, the man would pick out a ring before popping the question, today that’s no longer the case. Many men choose to propose before selecting a ring so that the two of you can choose it together. While this may not be as romantic as him choosing a ring for you, in practical terms, it does work a lot better. You get to choose the perfect ring, and can try it on to see if it fits at the same time.

Engagement Rings Choosing The Perfect Design

You might be a little unsure about what you need to think about when selecting a design. To help make ring shopping a little easier, here are a few tips to take note of:

Talk money

To avoid any miscommunications, it’s important to take the time to speak to your husband to be about how much you are able to spend on your engagement ring. This might be a somewhat awkward conversation to have, but the fact is it’s better to know beforehand rather than having to discuss it in the shop when you select a far too expensive ring.

Think about what you want

When it comes to choosing a ring, there are so many options that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. It’s not just a case of selecting a ring design, but also a metal and the perfect cut of diamond – there’s a lot to think about. To make selecting a ring a little easier, take some time to think about what you want, for instance, do halo style diamond engagement rings take your fancy? Think about the style of ring you’ve always imagined yourself wearing and go from there – maybe use tools like Pinterest and Instagram to get inspired? If you’re a little stuck when it comes to finding a ring design that you love, you could always consider getting one custom made – this might cost more but at least it would be what you want it to be.

Be mindful of your wedding ring

When choosing an engagement ring you need to remember that this will impact the wedding ring design and style that you are able to have, so make sure to bear this in mind. You will want your engagement ring and wedding ring to match, so it’s important to consider this when selecting an engagement ring. It’s important to think about how your engagement ring of choice will work with the wedding rings.

Visit a jewellery store and browse

Once you have carefully considered each aspect of choosing the perfect ring, the next step is to actually visit a ring store. Head to a local jewelers and take your partner along, so that you can have a browse of all the designs that are on offer.

Don’t be afraid to try designs that are a little different to how you imaged your ring to be. Sometimes, the best engagement rings are the ones that we didn’t think we would like. Personally, I love the idea of having a ring that’s a little bit different.

Picking the perfect engagement ring can be tricky. However, if you take note of these tips, you can make things a little easier and less stressful for yourself.
