FReNeTiC Word Game Review

6 December 2018 by Eileen Leave a Comment

FReNeTiC is a new frantic word game that uses the element symbols of the periodic table to form as many words as possible! Did you now that there are over 10,000 words that can be created using combinations of the element symbols of the FReNeTiC game board? You will be amazed by the game!

This unique word game is suitable for one or more players aged eight and above. This family game has broad appeal, with everyone playing all the time and combines skill, strategy and luck at a frenzied pace. It comes with a periodic table game board, 96 symbol tiles, four FReNeTiC tiles, four pencils, four pads, a 45-second timer, a blue cloth bag and instructions.

Setting it up is very straightforward. Place all tiles into the blue cloth bag. Each player gets their own pencil and pad. Players have to race against the clock with just 45 seconds to form as many words as possible using the element symbol tiles to create a word. Since we are playing at different levels of ability, we decided to adapt this rule by extending the time to a minute instead. We found that 45 seconds is just too short for us to think of a word or more.

On the first go, one player will draw out eight tiles from the bag and place them on the periodic table game board. Then everyone starts to play by forming their words without letting others know. Once the time is up, check the words that any players may have formed and if so, add the atomic numbers of each tile together to score. Then from now onwards, each player draws four tiles and starts the next round. The game ends when one player scores 1000 points or when the tiles run out.

For the first round, we’ve often found it quite difficult to form any words but this is to be expected. It does get easier the more tiles are added to the board. I was amazed that Mr K was able to form simple words and I couldn’t! I think I have to work harder to chase him up.

We love this game and find it very fun and challenging! Who would have thought of using the periodic table as a word game! This game is fascinating. This game was developed by Graeme Fraser-Bell, his wife and his sister during a holiday in October 2017. Graeme has already invented his first successful game called Accentuate, which is a guessing accent game. I think this game will appeal to many people. It is a great concept and is a very unique way of playing. It is available to buy now from John Lewis and Amazon. For more information, please visit: https://freneticgame.com/
