Stellar Beech Wood Cutting Board Review

9 March 2018 by Eileen

A good cutting board is just like having a best friend in the kitchen! With the perfect surface for chopping, slicing or dicing and also attractive enough to double up as a serving board! Stellar has launched a collection of beech wood cutting boards that are the best of both worlds!

Stellar Beech Wood Cutting Board Review

I have received this 39 cm by 29 cm high grade 20mm laminated beech wood cutting board, which is a great size for most households! I definitely wouldn’t want to go smaller than this size, especially as we use it to slice a lot of vegetables and meat for a family of four! Also, it is versatile that we can use it to place a hot 30” wok on it or use it to serve party finger foods.

I love the quality of this cutting board’s beech wood – it feels so strong and durable. It’s definitely made to last! Even after heavy chopping, the surfaces of the cutting board still look perfect. I have also tried cutting carrots which I’m happy to say they didn’t stain the wood and it is easy to wash. If you worry about staining, it can be bleached out with lemon juice. Also by rubbing salt into areas that have been used to cut garlic or onions can help remove odours.

This cutting board has smooth round corners around the edges of the board which makes it easy to handle. It is finished with an attractive and useful stainless steel hanging loop. Also worth noting is one side is simply smooth for serving, whilst the reverse has a draining channel. I love the draining channel which does a good job of collecting excess water whereas my old chopping board would have leaked over the kitchen worktop.

A wooden chopping board shouldn’t be exposed to lots of water as it might warp or crack. To prolong the life of the board, you should treat it with oil on both sides. Also never attempt to wash them in the dishwasher!

Besides the five sizes of rectangular cutting boards to choose from, Stellar also sell the paddle, butcher’s block and extendable trivet! The paddle is perfect for serving canapés and pizza. The butcher’s block comes with 4 non-slip feet and is every chef’s dream. The Beachware extendable trivet is created using partially concealed anodised aluminium batons! The sliced beach blocks which make up the trivet will protect your work surfaces from the greatest of heat. While it’s compact to store, its cleverest trick is the ability to stretch out to accommodate larger pots and pans from 14 to 20cm! So what will you choose? They are available in good retailers and Amazon.
