6 Ways to Turn Your Garden into a Winter Wonderland

27 October 2021 by Eileen 1 Comment

The weather is getting colder, but we can’t always count on having snow – no matter how much you want to build a snowman!

Even without the flurries, however, there’s no reason you can’t have your own beautiful winter wonderland to escape to.

6 Ways to Turn Your Garden into a Winter Wonderland

If you’re in the market to upgrade your outdoor décor this winter, then check out these six splendid solutions that will make up for any lack of snowmen!

  1. Festive Plants

Unfortunately, many of our friendly foliage don’t survive the cold winter months. However, you can keep your garden looking green and healthy by opting for plants that flower in winter.

Options such as winter heather and pansies are great choices for adding a splash of colour during those dreary days.

  1. Attract Birds

Not all birds fly south for the winter, and the colder season is a great time to attract creatures such as robins to your back garden.

Put up a bird feeder and fill it with high-value seeds, or with bird cakes which you can make yourself, to give these feathery friends lots of nutrients for the colder months.

  1. Render Your Walls

This isn’t just aesthetic advice – although rendering your external walls will give your garden a fresh, crisp look – but it’s practical too!

The winter winds and rain can play havoc on our exterior walls, so coating them in a render like the options supplied by Direct Building Products is an excellent way to protect them from damage.

  1. Heat Your Garden

The weather might be getting colder, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t spend time in our gardens.

With a patio heater, you’ll be able to sit in your garden all year round – at least on the days that it’s dry! Or if you have the room, consider installing a fire pit table, and you’ll be able to roast marshmallows over an open fire on those dark evenings.

  1. Candle Lanterns

If you’re going to be spending more time in your garden this winter, then it’s time to get creative with light.

Candle lanterns, such as those stocked by Black Country Metal Works, are a beautiful but minimalist way to add some light to your winter wonderland. Plus, they don’t use the electric!

  1. Fairy Lights

While nothing says winter wonderland like snow, you can’t just assume you’ll get any. However, one of the next best things to decorate your garden with are fairy lights!

String them along your fence and drape them over your trees to make your back garden sparkle in those dark winter months!

When you turn you garden into a winter retreat, you can make the most of it even when it’s cold outside.

What have you done to get your garden ready for winter? Tell us all about your design plans in the comments below!
