Interior Design Tips for Selling Your Home Quickly

4 February 2021 by Eileen

In a rush to sell your home? Then you’ll want to make sure that your interior design is up to scratch! Read on below for some top interior design tips that will speed up your sale…

There’s no easy way to sell your home quickly. At least, there’s no easy way to sell your home quickly if you don’t want your investment to disappear down the drain!

That’s why making sure that the finer details are taken care of is crucial. One such detail is to make sure that your interior design is kept up to date, which might just encourage potential buyers to put pen to paper sooner than you thought possible.

So, if you’re working with a conveyancing solicitor to sell your home in a jiffy, then you’ll want to pay attention to the following interior design tips. Who knows – they may take months off the time it takes to sell.

Interior Design Tips for Selling Your Home Quickly

10 Interior Design Tips to Sell Your Home Quickly

1. Start with a Checklist

Every great plan starts with a list, right? Even if you’re not the sort of person that has a minute-by-minute plan for everything they are doing, you should definitely consider a checklist for all of your interior design plans.

This way, you can keep track of what you still need to do, ensuring that you’re fully ready when the time comes to start allowing people to view your home. There’s no worse feeling than thinking you’re done when, in reality, you’ve still got a handful of jobs to get finished.

2. Go for a Fresh Lick of Paint

It’s amazing what a simple coat of paint can do. One of the simplest interior design tips you should keep in mind is to go over your walls with a fresh coat of paint, adding a new-found freshness to your home.

This is an especially important tip to keep in mind if you’ve opted for, let’s say, bold colour combinations. Keep in mind that they might not be to everyone’s tastes, so going over them with a neutral colour will work wonders.

3. Declutter

Even the tidiest of people get into a mess every now and then – it’s human nature! That being said, you should make sure to declutter your home as much as possible if you want it to sell quickly.

Anyone viewing a home that’s full of clutter and mess isn’t likely to be too impressed, so make sure to tidy away everything neatly.

4. Leave Some Personality

That said, don’t purge your home of all its personality! Yes, while it may be a little difficult to strike the balance between a home that’s messy and ‘lived in’, you shouldn’t feel as though you need to design a home that’s devoid of personality.

Buyers need to be able to see a property that they can really live in. That’s not always going to be possible if they’re looking at a property with very little actually going on inside its walls.

5. Deep Clean

Deep cleaning is a must. For areas such as your bathroom and kitchen, the most important design tip to keep in mind is to make sure that they are thoroughly clean over anything else. You can be sure that someone would prefer a less attractive bathroom that’s clean over the opposite.

Get those rubber gloves on and fill up a bucket with bleach – you’re going to need them!

6. Lighten Up the Place

No one likes a dark and dingy home, do they? So, make sure you let in as much natural light as possible, and focus on positioning furniture in a particular way to make the most of the light.

Lightening up a room can also make it to appear bigger than it actually is, which will almost always be a positive in the eyes of a buyer.

7. ‘Stage’ Your Home

When you are staging your home, you need to be a little more calculated in terms of what interior design choices you make. This will mean trying to disengage from your home on an emotional level, assessing the pros and cons in an objective manner.

While you might have certain quirks associated with your interior design choices, if they aren’t conventional (or you’ve had disapproving comments in the past) then think about making a few adjustments.

8. Keep an Eye on Any Repair Jobs

If you notice any slight damages in your interior, then you’ll want to make sure that they are addressed, pronto.

Even if you’re not a DIY whizz, there are plenty of small repair jobs that don’t take too much practice to get the hang of. So, what are you waiting for? That creaky door isn’t going to fix itself!

9. Get a Second Opinion

There’s nothing wrong with admitting that you need a little bit of help when it comes to making interior design choices. If you want to make sure that your home is sold quickly, then there is nothing wrong with consulting a friend or family member, getting their opinion on the changes you’ve made.

They’ll likely offer you constructive criticism that you hadn’t previously given thought to, allowing you to make even better changes moving forwards.

10. Speak to the Professionals

If you’re really stuck in a rut – or you don’t have the time to make interior design changes yourself – then you can always speak to the professionals.

A quick Google search will bring up plenty of interior designers that are nearby, and they’ll all be able to lend you a hand (for a fee of course!).
