Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak Review

15 November 2019 by Eileen 2 Comments

Now you can recreate the iconic scenes from the Harry Potter film series with this Harry Potter invisibility cloak by appearing to disappear! We must be in Santa’s good books as we were selected to trial this invisibility cloak by Ministry of Magic! We all had so much fun watching ourselves trying to disappear in the video clips and directing the whole play of our own!

Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak Review

This cloak is suitable for aged six and above. To be honest, any young Harry Potter fan would love this – it is a fantastic product!

Inside the box, it comes with a 139.7cm fully patterned invisibility cloak with special effect lining, phone stand and instructions (unique product code is on the front cover).

The cloak is full size for an adult.  I’m measure 1.58 cm in height and the cloak is just enough to cover all the way to my toes.  It is made from two different fabrics. The outside fabric is printed with a lovely design and on the inside, it is a soft silky green material. The cloak does attract a lot of static and we have been zapped many times while playing with it! The cloak is only just big enough to cover me. I did have to tuck in my tummy in order to make myself disappear properly! On the other hand, my husband and children have enough fabric to swoosh around. The cloak has a hook and eye fastening at the neckline which is difficult to fasten by yourself as you can’t see what you’re doing. The cloak is well made but after some rough play by my children and their friends, some parts of the green lining split apart and I had to stitch it back together. The cloak is not suitable for machine or hand wash.

The included phone stand is adjustable and it is suitable to be placed low down. I do find the phone stand is a bit flimsy and not robust enough. It collapsed a couple of times while we were using it. My suggestion is to use a proper tripod to help keep your phone in portrait or landscape mode.

Before you do any filming, make sure your device is running on iOS 11 and above for iPhone & iPad, and Android 5.0 and above for Android devices. Otherwise the Wow! Stuff app won’t work. Also, note that the unique product code is only valid for up to three devices. Make sure you pick the right device before you input the code!

I managed to download the app very quickly, sign up an account and start using it. The camera will disregard anything that is of a similar shade of green as the cloak, so remember to remove any green stuff away from the scene. You can record up to 10 minutes of footage or take a still photo via the app. We tried it inside and outside the house and enjoy using it. It is difficult to use outdoors as things move, especially the trees! We have plenty of falling leaves in our garden at the moment! Inside the house, it allows us to plan and control it better.

Needless to said, we all had fun playing with it, especially the children and their friend. They were directing and planning the whole scene for their movie. There are so many ideas and scenes you can recreate using the invisibility cloak! This might not be everyone’s cup of tea especially as the magical effect can only be used via the app. But for Harry Potter fans, this is a great item!
