Unlock! Escape Adventures Review

Now you can create your own escape room experience in your very own home with this Unlock! Game from Space Cowboys. Unlock! is a cooperative card game inspired by escape rooms which allows you to search scenes, combine objects, and solve riddles. This game is required to be played alongside the free Unlock! app via Google Play or App Store. Once downloaded, an internet connection is not required during gameplay. There are quite a few adventures listed on the app, so make sure you click the correct adventure which is the Escape Adventures for this occasion.

This game is for two to six players, and for ages 10 and above. Each game will take at least 60 minutes to play. Inside the box, it comes with three decks of adventure cards plus a ten-card tutorial and instructions. The ten-card tutorial allows you to learn how to play without reading the game rules. The tutorial only lasts 10 minutes or less. It can be shorter or longer. It depends on how fast you are able to solve it.

For this Unlock! Escape Adventures game, it consists of three captivating adventures: The Formula, Squeek & Sausage and The Island of Doctor Goose.

For the Formula adventure, you enter a secret laboratory to recover a mysterious serum that has been developed by a scientist. Will you solve all the riddles and get out in less than an hour? This adventure level of difficulty is two locks.

We have played the Squeek & Sausage adventure where we need to thwart the plans of the despicable Professor Noside! This game level of difficulty is also two locks, which is the same as the Formula. We have only 60 minutes to solve it using the clue given on the card and by adding numbers to get the next card. There are several types of cards like Objects (red and blue stripe), Machines (green stripe), Codes (yellow stripe) and other cards (grey stripe).

Whenever you find something or need a clue, go to your app for help. Mr K found it annoyingly hard to concentrate with the sound on. I do like it as it creates the right level of tension! There were many times we needed clues via the app and they are not always very helpful when you are stuck. Everyone has to get involved to help solve the puzzles without getting penalties! We lost so much of time due to accidental mistakes or incorrect guesses! Also, do check the hidden object button for clues if you get stuck. We didn’t manage to find our way out within 60 minutes, so the time on the app will continue counting till you solve it.

The last adventure is the Island of Doctor Goorse. You are visiting the island of an eccentric antique collector billionaire and have to overcome its traps!

We find this game is refreshing and fun to play, especially as a party game. It challenges us on many levels with head-scratching puzzles. There is also plenty of satisfaction in store when you manage to crack the code! There are many hidden numbers on the cards and it is important to inspect each card carefully. It can be frustrating when we fail to grasp the designers’ train of thought. We keep asking why and what to do next!

We love this game very much, but once you complete all three adventures, there is not much play value again. The game is inexpensive to buy, so it is worth getting this game to play with your family and friends.
