GraviTrax Expansion Review

20 August 2018 by Eileen

Last month, we were so excited to introduce you to the GraviTrax Starter set from Ravensburger. This is a STEM-inspired track system that combines the classic marble run and erector set with modern twists! It allows fans to build their own superb tracks, release the gravity spheres and watch the forces of nature work to create an action-filled adventure!

Today, we are here to introduce you three of GraviTrax expansion add-on packs to be used with their Starter set: Building Extension, Action Hammer and Action Magnetic Cannon. GraviTrax is suitable for ages eight years and above.

GraviTrax expansion review

The Building Extension pack includes 2 card bases, transparent level, 8 large vertical tiles, 4 small vertical tiles, 2 switches, 3in1 base, vortex, finish line, 4 basic tiles, 2 catcher base inserts, free fall inserts, splash inserts and landing insert.

The Action Hammer pack includes hammer block, long track, 2 medium tracks and 3 short tracks. My son loves this addition and it works by adding velocity to your track layout. If the Gravity Spheres have slowed to a crawl, this hammer will smack the sphere giving it some much-needed momentum to complete the circuit! It didn’t take long to assemble the hammer.

Last but not least, is the Action Magnetic Cannon which also can be found in the starter set. This set includes Magnetic Cannon and 3 sphere balls. If your Gravity Spheres need an uplift, this Magnetic Cannon will give the Gravity Spheres a major boost in speed from the magnetic elements!

If you are looking for expansion packs for your tracks, they also have the Trax Extension Pack, Action Catapult Add-on and Action Loop Add-on. Do look out for them!

As I mentioned in my earlier blog post, the components are very well made from good quality materials. The card bases are easy to piece together and made from hard cardboard, which creates the foundation, whilst the holes hold the hexagonal tiles in place. I do find that it is best to place the card bases on a hard floor or table for better stability. With the expansion building set, you can build even bigger tracks and with extra levels by using the transparent levels.

Mr K has been using the sets to build four levels and loves to watch the spheres drop free fall! He doesn’t always get it right first time but after a few attempts, he was able to build his own working tracks. He has always loved his Marble Run toy since young and with this modern twist in GraviTrax, he can get absolutely immersed in it and loves watching the Gravity Spheres travel around his tracks.

This STEM system (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) is an ideal set to teach children about gravity, magnetism, kinetic energy and fun. I would definitely recommend it and it will make a fantastic gift for anyone, especially at Christmas! It is great value for money and durable. You can get it from good toy retailers, online and Amazon.

You can also use the free app (App Store and Google Play) for the GraviTrax ball track system with its free editor to build your very own fantastic tracks, and then roll the balls as you watch from different angles. Try endless new combinations and come up with new ideas to build your tracks. Experience the tracks interactively and follow the balls from a variety of camera angles – including in Virtual Reality if you have the right headset / compatible phone.
