Ryobi 36V Fusion Cordless Lawnmower Review

12 September 2017 by Eileen

This summer, we’ve been keeping our lawn well maintained and looking stunning thanks to Ryobi 36V Fusion Cordless Lawnmower. As it has been raining very frequently, the grass has grown like wildfire and looked a mess. With this mower, it is has been a breeze to give it a quick trim and be done in no time.

Ryobi 36V fusion lawnmower review

The Ryobi Lithium Fusion™ technology, is powered by dual 18V Lithium+ 4.0Ah batteries. The 4.0Ah Lithium+ battery offers more power, longer run times and better durability, giving petrol equivalent performance. We are no strangers to Ryobi products as we have already been using their tools to build a pallet playhouse, pallet climbing frame and many more DIY projects! They are built to last, have superb battery endurance, great value for money and cordless! I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve tripped or ruined the cable! Once you use their products, you will never go back to corded power tools again!

ryobi 36v cordless lawnmower gardenMy first impression of this Ryobi 36V Fusion Cordless lawnmower was that it’s very well built and I love all the components! In my video, I unbox it to show you the different components of the mower and explain what I think about it.

Two 18V Lithium+ 4.0Ah batteries and charger are included. It takes around two hours to get one battery fully charged. As I already own a few Ryobi batteries, I was able to use the lawnmower straight out of the box as the batteries are compatible with over 70 Ryobi tools for the home and garden.

This lawnmower has a 40cm cutting width with metal blade for excellent cutting and mulching, plus EasyEdge™ grass comb which allows you to mow up to the edge or around flower beds for a much neater look. It now takes just me 15 minutes to mow the lawn.

Now you might think what is the difference between 36cm and 40cm? It might only be 4cm but it makes a whole lot of difference in the time you spend cutting the lawn! Previously, I owned a 40cm lawnmower and one day, the cable broke. Then I bought a 36cm lawnmower thinking it would save some money and we regretted it from day one. It felt like it took about twice as long to mow! This 40cm mower is definitely the right size for our garden. Think of the time it can save you!

Setting up the mower is straightforward by simply releasing the handles & clips, removing the insert and replacing it with the 50 litre hard top grass bag. Place the batteries and key and you are ready to go! Also, once you have finish using it, it only takes a few seconds to collapse the handles and it is ready to store. In this picture (Ryobi lawnmower vs my old lawnmower), once it is stored, the lawnmower is very compact and saves so much room in your garage especially because of the handle!

This lawnmower comes with five height positions between 20mm-70mm (20, 32.5, 45, 57.5, 70). If you set it too low for your lawn, the mower will cut out the motor to stop it from ruining the lawn and the motor. I really appreciate this feature as I often ruin our lawn! Also, I love the gear stick style lever for the height adjustment which is really easy to change too. How cool was that!

To operate the mower, you have to press the green switch on the top and hold one of the handles to get it to start. At any point, when you start getting tired of using the handle bar you are holding, you can simply hold onto the other one and release the handle bar you were previously holding.

Another great feature of this mower is the handle! The ergonomic handle is quite chunky, comfortable to hold and there’s no fear of the handle wobbling or coming apart.

Even though this mower weighs around 18kg, which is heavier than my old lawnmower and quite chunky, in fact, it was not too difficult to manoeuvre especially around corners.

This Ryobi 36V Fusion Cordless Lawnmower gives you two options for collecting the cut lawn: either use the soft grass bag to store or use the insert to leave the cut lawn back on your lawn. I love that the grass bag is made from soft materials. It is great for compact storage and also allows you to shake the cut lawn off easily. Also when the lid of the grass bag is close, it means the bag is full. Occasionally, it does leave a small trail of cuttings.

This lawnmower is very well built and should last for a long time. I enjoy using it so much more than my cable lawnmower. This saves me so much time, feels solid and looks stylish. The batteries lasts for ages and this lawnmower has the power to cut the lawn very neatly. I would highly recommend Ryobi 36V Fusion Cordless lawnmower to anyone!
