Have you jumped into the digital world of Virtual Reality (VR)? A new British brand, VR Insane™, has developed a new VR headset designed for children and adults alike. We were thrilled to try out this new experience!
The lightweight POP360 VR headset is comfortable to wear for both children and adults and it is very portable. The whole unit can collapse down (around 40mm thick) and enabling compact storage inside the included hard-shell travel case. Unfortunately, in order to keep the headset in the case, you have to use the front lid to clip the straps in to do this. In doing so, I do worry that the front lid might become loose over time. I have opted to partially close the box.
The headset design is simple and mainly plain black (red, yellow and blue coloured front lids are coming soon) with silver rim on the cap. It is made from a soft silicon rubber material surrounding your face including your nose area. The silicon rubber does attract dirt around it and can also get on the lens. Luckily, they have provided a cloth to clean the lens.
The headset is secure by the adjustable straps with Velcro around the head area. It’s comfortable for an adult size head. My nine year old son is also able to wear it comfortably but it’s too big for my seven year old daughter even with the Velcro adjusted as short as possible.
This headset is suitable for smartphones with a 4.5”-6” screen size. It has a click and lock front lid which secures your smartphone well. It also has a firm sponge to ensure your phone is well protected. The headset has a top-mounted touchscreen button (Google Cardboard II compatible) for interacting with your content. This means you have control (play/pause etc.) over your videos and interactivity (shoot/move) with your games, without the need to take off your headset, providing the app is designed to use it.
With a wide 96 field-of-view and suitable for use with glasses. Both my children are wearing glasses and it fits well for both them. It has a lens adjustment to help with the focus on the screen. We found some VR apps are sharper than others so it really depends on the content.
VR Insane™ offer 2 free apps with the POP360 which is available for iOS and Android devices. Download the VR Insane™ app and VR Insane™ Kids app by scanning the QR code supplied with the headset or search for it in your app or play store.
The VR Insane™ app contains a wide variety of content in a multitude of genres, whilst the recently launched VR Insane™ Kids app contains only child-friendly content. Both apps have content updated daily and feature 100’s of the latest VR videos available on the web. VR Insane™ manually select the best 360 videos, then sort and filter them into convenient categories such as Fun, Experience, Education & Travel. It is quick and easy to select your video to watch. Of course, you can also download other apps to get your VR experience. For an even more immersive experience, plug in your favourite headphones too!
Overall, this POP360 VR headset is well built and great value for money. Instead of getting a cheap cardboard viewer for about a tenner, why not pay extra for the comfort and easy to use VR headset from VR Insane™. The headset is available now from a variety of global retailers like Amazon and www.vrinsane.com for £19.99.
