Skylanders Imaginators Wii U Review

2 November 2016 by Eileen

A few months ago, I blogged about the Skylanders Imaginators event and then just before the recent half term, we received the Skylanders Imaginators starter kit for Wii U to review!  Both of my children were so excited and love this game so much.

As many of you may know, we are a huge fans of Skylanders and have been playing with them for over three years now. From the first series Spyro’s Adventure, then to Giants, followed by Swap Force, Trap Team, SuperChargers and now Skylanders Imaginators.  Also not forgetting Skylanders Academy season one is on Netflix right now!

For the first time, you can design your own Skylanders characters, from giving him a banana head to hot pants using the Imaginite Creation Crystals to store your character.  It includes customising appearance, powers, abilities, names, catchphrases, musical themes and much more.  There are so many combinations for you to create and you can also earn extra variations through the game.  You get to choose your own battle class and there are 10 in total.

The Skylanders Imaginators Starter Pack is available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Wii U.  Skylanders Imaginators supports all 300+ Skylanders from previous games.

The launch of Skylanders Imaginators also ushers in the release of a fun, new mobile app for the game, Skylanders Creator, that lets fans take their creations on the go!  Featuring similar creation tools available in the Skylanders Imaginators console game, players can create Imaginators from scratch or magically transfer their created characters from the console game to the app using special audio technology! The app helps fans to express their creativity and love for Skylanders.  Players can simply download Skylanders Creator for free from select iOS and Android mobile devices’ app stores.

In this Skylanders Imaginators game, Kaos has discovered the ancient power of Mind Magic and is using it to create an unstoppable army of Doomlanders!  Eon is calling upon all Portal Masters and Skylands’ greatest mystic warriors, the Senseis, to stop Kaos and his minions. Now, you must use the power of your imagination to create your own Skylanders to battle in the ultimate adventure alongside the almighty Senseis to save Skylands.

In this starter kit for the Wii U, it comes with a disc, Skylanders Portal of Power, Master King Pen, Golden Queen and Imaginite Creation Crystal.  Luckily before the launch of Skylanders Imaginators, we received Dr. Krankcase and three Imaginite Creation Crystals to start!  Skylanders Imaginators also introduces two new guest star characters — Crash Bandicoot and his arch-nemesis Dr. Neo Cortex. They join the line-up of Skylanders Sensei characters as fully-playable toys. The game also gives Crash fans a dedicated level, Thumpin Wumpa Islands, that pays homage to be beloved ‘90s videogame icon.  This game can be play with one or two players or against other people online.

This is one of the games that both of my children are happy to play together and work as a team!  Through this game, they both learn how to fight efficiently and delegate who to collect the items.

Both of my children each have their own creation crystals to create their own characters.  They love all the silly costumes they are able to give their characters.  Now you can have a banana head with bright amour and tentacle legs.  Not only that but you can also have a pointy ears and a bushy tail!  Want to be a giant, then increase the size and you will be as big as the giant character!  Both of them were amazed with the choices.  There are only a few selections when you just start the game but the more you battle, the more you unlock the special power, gift and many more.  Or you can collect coins to purchase the upgrades!

They both enjoy battling through all the side quests and mini games like trying to frost Kaos’ cake and getting rid of the bugs at the same time!  They also enjoy the story play much more than the SuperChargers. They like all the silliness in the game, like flying/teleporting on the dragon wings to move to another island. The graphics on the game is excellent too. I would definitely recommend it.
