Why Blinds are better than Curtains? If you are decorating a room, one of the main considerations should be your window coverings. Making the right choice will make a huge difference to the overall look and feel of the room. The two main options are curtain or blind.
When we moved into our home, we painted some of rooms and then ordered some blinds to match. They have stood the test of time and have been maintenance free. Here’s some of the reasons why we chose blind over curtain:
Choices of design
In our master bedroom, we have green walls and we found some beautiful green and gold floral print roman blind that matched the walls and the other furnishings. Yes, curtains are available in these types of prints too but blind generally have many more designs.
Types of blinds
We loved the idea of being able customise our rooms by having different types of blinds in different rooms. Upstairs, we have roman blind in our bedroom and the children have blackout blind. These have been invaluable during the long summer days otherwise it would have impacted the children’s body clocks. Downstairs, we opted for venetian blind for the forward-facing living room and study and roller blind for the conservatory. The venetian blind downstairs offers privacy but still lets in a good amount of light which you can of course vary.
Maintenance
We’ve had our blind for almost 10 years now and apart from dusting, they have been maintenance free. Curtains are more difficult to maintain as vacuuming them might not be sufficient and you may need to dry clean them. Then you would need to iron and rehang which can take time and can be fiddly.
Costs
Curtains can be very expensive depending on the quality of the fabric. Fabric blind use less material so they can work out cheaper.
