Bake Off is coming back to our screens at the end of August and no doubt, many people will be looking to buy a food stand mixer! What is the first thing you look for when buying a food mixer? The look, the size, the wattage or simply the price tag?
Having owned a hand mixer to food mixer, I think I found my new love! This gorgeous retro stand mixer from Savisto Home stands out from the crowd. Not only does it look stunning, I love that the mixer bowl is 5.5 litres, it has a great range of power settings and of course, the price tag. It is just under £100.
Firstly, let me show you the list of items you would get when you buy this: the food stand mixer with 5.5 litre stainless steel mixing bowl, splash guard, three attachments (dough hook, beater and whisk), red silicon spatula, cookbook and instructions.
This is my video demonstrating how to install the accessories together, using the three attachments, using the speed setting and pulse mode, and what I think about it. https://youtu.be/npuE7ppaPiI
Now let’s talk about the look of this mixer. Personally I love the red colour and the retro styling which suits my kitchen very nicely. It does comes in black too. The surface of the mixer does not leave a mess of fingerprint marks. Cleaning is easy as there is not many grooves in between the mixer.
The mixer just slightly wider than my old mixer but is relatively compact and doesn’t take up too much of the kitchen top. It comes with four anti-slip feet on the bottom of the machine which helps stop the mixer from moving while whisking.
The small silver lever to lift the mixer is simple to use and twists in a smooth action. This comes with an impressive 800 watt motor with the ability to push to 1260 watts when under heavy load. There are 6 speed settings and a pulse mode. For speeds 1 to 2, it is to use for the dough hook for making dough. For speeds 3 to 4, it is to use for the beater for any mixture whilst speeds 5 to 6 is for the whisk where you can beat egg whites for example. The speed knob does light up in blue which is a lovely touch!
Now let’s look at the mixing bowl! I am quite exciting with this. Not only is it lightweight, it also comes with a handle for ease of holding. I always wanted a kMix because it comes with a glass bowl so I can look into the mixture. This mixer has changed my mind on that. If it is made from glass, it will be heavy and not easy to pour the mixture onto the baking tray. This lightweight mixing bowl makes it easy to dispense the mixture out.
The transparent splash guard comes with an ingredient chute to keep your worktop and mixing machine clean from any mess during the mixing process. But I do find that the fine powdery ingredients like icing sugar will shoot out the chute, due to the air pressure inside the bowl. It would be great if they designed a small lid for the chute.
Three attachments are included: dough hook, beater and whisk. The dough hook and beater are made from slightly different materials from the whisk. I can’t tell exactly what the materials are but they are very sturdy metal. These two attachments (dough hook and beater) can’t be dish washed and have to be hand washed. The whisk, bowl and splash guard can be hand washed or dish washed. You can watch the different uses of the attachments in my video.
Overall I enjoy using my new kitchen gadget! It is definitely a new upgrade for me. I love the speed – many of my mixtures whisk up so quickly now which saves time! I also love that it is easy to install and use! It can be bought from good stores, or on Amazon and includes a 2 year guarantee.
