Skylanders Battlecast

10 July 2016 by Eileen

Skylanders Battlecast is Activision Blizzard’s new battle card game and was launched recently for iOS, Android and Kindle Fire. The app bring cards to life through the camera using the power of augmented reality. The app is free to download and you do not need physical cards to play the game. Of course, if you would like to build your ultimate team, you can buy booster cards in all good stores. They come in booster packs of eight cards and battle packs of twenty two cards.

There are over 300 cards available to collect and four types of cards to collect: Character, Spell, Gear and Relic cards.  The Character cards are to summon your favourite Skylander to cast spells and attack your foes.  The Spell cards are to cast powerful spells to smite foes on the field of battle. Relic cards are to change how the game is played with mysterious relics where Gear cards are to quip gear to boost your Skylanders. There are also special gold and silver variants of some cards. In Battlecast, you can level up cards from level 1 to 20, however a silver card will automatically start at level 10 while a gold will come into play at level 20.  Once the card is scanned, it is registered to the player, then your card will not be able to be passed onto another player.  If your card is new and not scanned, at any point of time you need to take a photo of the card, always make sure you slot it into the trading shield so no one can steal your card.  If you happened to have two of the same cards, it will double up your level.

There are two main modes: story and a PvP multiplayer. The story mode consists of over 60 missions across eight elemental islands to defeat Kaos and save Skylands from his legion of EVIL. By completing the challenges on each mission to earn more rewards. Also by playing it daily to earn rewards and unlock achievements. There is an option to build up your 30-card deck or they could do it automatically for you at the Collection Book. Over time, you will be able to find a strategy you like to battle!

We have not played PvP multiplayer with friends, so we are currently unable to tell you more about it!

Both my children enjoy battles with their favourite characters using their favourite cards. They don’t always win the battles but they are enjoying selecting their best players to play in this strategy game. They love the mission and the storyline. It is engaging and the graphics are great. I find this game is great for younger players to learn strategy and to form their best team. If you need more information, check out Skylanders site!
