Rory’s Story Cubes – Batman & Moomin

30 June 2016 by Eileen

Rory’s Story Cubes is a small pocket sized, creative story generator.  It comes with nine cubes with a total of 54 themed images for you to create unlimited stories!  This is such a great idea to help children to be creative and challenge their imagination to tell their own story.

Both of my children love to play this again and again.  Each time they play, they both come out with some very different and interesting stories and endings.

We have received the Batman story cubes and Moomin story cubes which are available to buy in good retailers and Amazon at RRP£12.99. It is suitable for aged 6 and above and for one or more players. It comes in a compact plastic storage casing which allow you to keep the dice safe. I had tried to fold the icon list & instructions sheet into a square to squeeze it inside the casing but it doesn’t fit.  As we are quite new to the game, we are not yet familiar with all the icons to know what they all represent. It’s a shame that that the case of dice are really portable but the instructions will have to be carried separately.

Each set comes with nine Story Cubes. The dice are smooth, chunky and easy to roll and are made to a really good finish.  Each die comes with 6 different images and there are no repeats. This also means there will be over a million combinations to use for storytelling inspiration!

To play the game, you will need to roll all nine Story Cubes and make up your story.  Both my children’s hands are still too small to roll all nine Story Cubes so they have to split it into two rolls.  Each time they are both able to make up different and fun stories to amuse us.  They especially love the Batman set as they like to make their own superhero stories!

As for Moomin, they are not very familiar with the cartoon but have briefly watched it on TV.  Moomin are a family of white, roundish fairy tale characters with large snouts that make them resemble hippopotamuses. They live in their house in Moominvalley and they have many adventures with their various friends.  The dice reflect on their life stories.

These Story Cubes are perfect for travel and to play at any time! There is no right or wrong answer and everyone can play along!  You just need a bit of imagination and let the story begin. Besides telling a story, you could also draw out the comic strips!

I would definitely recommend these to anyone!  It is one of the best engaging games for children and it works well as a travel game too.

Love the themes on these, I think my little boy would have a lot of fun with the Batman ones as he has a great imagination!
